Can you see how several branches are dying back, @Michael Hewett?

Why is it going like that I wonder ? Maybe too dry ... The one in the first photo looks all right.
Has it got vine weevils ? or something ... Have a look at the roots, maybe it needs repotting. It likes free draining compost.

I take it then that yours are not like that? The 1st photo was off the cutting I rooted. It was a piece of a branch that had gotten broken off in transit.

Impossible that it should have Vine Weevils as it has never been outside the flat onto the balcony. I did have it for a few weeks in our living room but it didn't look at all happy so I moved it to the kitchen where it has been ever since. I have been misting it frequently but even so it doesn't seem to help.:( Yet the baby one does seem to be happy but then again it's spent the whole time I've had it just where it is now in the kitchen.

Being a succulent I've been trying to avoid overwatering it & have dried to keep it a little on the dry side. I doubt very much it needs repotting as it's only been in the pot for 8 months. Do you repot yours ? How long have you had yours?

Don't keep it too dry, it isn't a desert plant. Although it's a cactus it is native to the tropical forests of southern Brazil, around Rio de Janeiro, where it grows as an epiphyte on the branches of trees. It needs a well draining soil but don't let it become too dry.

Mine is many years old but I don't know exactly how long I've had it. It actually needs repotting now because it has stopped growing and I think it needs fresh compost.

          .
Yes, I know it's not a desert cactus! I have half a dozen of those but I also have some epiphytes like Christmas Cactus & Easter Cactus as well. I've been growing epiphytes for the 21 years we have lived here! But I've only grown Cacti for about 3 years.

Wow... stunning! Especially the first one is lovely, the colour is rather unusual and delicate. What is it @pete ?

Got an opuntia flowering, its a leggy old thing that survives outside in half decent winters but this has been in the greenhouse a while.
