Down to single figure temperatures last night and tonight. Another cloudy day but calm and in need of some sun to warm us up here. 15C/59F

Cooler today but still no sign of rain.

We have put out another large drinking bowl (plastic cat littler tray) for the wildlife and domestic life. More of the local cats are coming by to drink and then going out of the garden. I've spread bee, wasp and hoverfly bowls around the garden (large plant saucers with stones and angled pieces of slate protruding above the surface) and, especially, the wasps are seen in abundance. They are working hard at pollinating as well. :blue thumb:

How do you keep the wasps away from the cat drinking stations, @shiney? I've got lots of drinking bowls on the terrace, for the cats, but they have a job to get to them for pesky wasps! It's not time yet to wipe out the nests, as they're doing a sterling job of cleaning up a woolly scale infestation on the citrus trees

                        Hi,

                        upload_2022-7-27_7-26-23.png

Cooling down nicely; soon be back to normal but it's been nice for a while not having to wear my heavy outdoor clothing; we've had a summer this year so no complaints. :yahoo:

                        Kind regards, Colin.

The typical drinking bowls for the cats are large and have perching stones for the wasps. The wasps stay at one end to drink and the cats go to the other end whilst keeping an eye on the wasps.

I've just taken these pictures before refilling the bowls with water.

You'll see that one of them is a lot dirtier than the other. I pressure wash them fairly regularly but cats being perverse always seem to prefer the dirtier one - except for one cat that is more fastidious. We had noticed, many years ago, that cats most often preferred drinking the water from the plant saucers of the pots on the patio :noidea:

The birds use both (there are more around the garden) for drinking and bathing. These two are next to each other.

The ones specifically for the small flying things are in flower beds where there are lots of plants with pollen.
