Hamelia patens

Mexican Firebcracker, Firebush, the lovely Hamelia patens. It is just tiny as I have done it from a rooted cutting and I am excited as it has come into bloom ...

 

Just looked it up, nice plant.
Another one of those that attract hummingbirds.
So keep your eyes open.

 

Shame we don't have any hummingbirds.

I see, they must be open on yours then. It must be grown for its form and leaves, which are pretty

 

From looking online I get the impression that maybe each flower is slightly insignificant but they form in bunches and on a large plant they look impressive overall.
Imagine a hydrangea with only one flower, wouldn't look much would it.

 

Too true Pete. We watched NCIS Miami and I kept seeing these shrubs so did a search on Florida plants and came up that this COULD be what I was seeing. I think it is a neat, unusual plant and got the cutting from Spain.

 

I repotted The General as I call it a couple of months ago and it looks good in The Courtyard where it gets lots of sun ...


The stems are attractive too ...
