Tomato Growing Thread 2022

@eatenbyweasels I am really impressed by the fruit production on the lufichoise multiflora plant. The SMFL I grew has produced fruit but not in so much abundance considering the volume of flowers. I suspect the overall blossom drop across plants that I had was a factor with the weather here so not giving up hope and will replant next year and the season ain't finished yet so milder weather might help. I've also done some crosses so they will need to be planted next season too.

But hats off, that is a mighty fine bunch of fruit....bring on the scaffolding....

@sandymac So right. These are new to me but recommended. However, so far I've also had some yellow brandywine. Perhaps it's my taste but didn't go a bundle on them.

Last year I ate my one and only Fred Limbaugh on a thick slice of homemade bread with lashings of butter. It was so fruity it was like a jam. But it's all so subjective. Whatever the size it's the taste that counts.

 

In had a brilliant crop with brandywine and brandy boy but taste was not as good as i expected,

The best tasted large tomatoes i have grown in recent years was Steak sandwich recommended on here by a grower in Yorkshire I Was in Durham now in Northumberland and Steak sandwich is still the best tasting large tomato i have grown, This year i have also grown Honeymoon which is good but not as nice as Steak sandwich, maybe it grows better up north

I'll be saving some seed from that plant. It's not stable, however; the second plant I grew has far fewer, larger fruits. Later trusses on both plants had a lot of blossom drop, too.

That truss is literally dangling over the public pavement at the front of my house. It's already been hoisted up with string and I might have to add more.

 

Not looked at my tomatoes today but will feed them tomorrow.

 

@eatenbyweasels Well I hope they don't suffer the same fate as some of my Japanese black trifele last year. They overhung my wall and it was a seven foot drop below to the Pavement as it was a retaining wall, but still somebody lifted them....

I hope they saved the seed though.....

 

Ah! The lure of forbidden fruit!
The little cottages next to me don't have anywhere suitable to grow tomatoes, so once I've picked my fruits for seed saving, I'll be telling the neighbours to help themselves. Plenty more in the greenhouse.

 

How dreadful that Tom's are stolen! How naive of me! Hope you not too upset.

 

Not quite jwk levels of cropping but things are improving. Keep on mixing up honeycomb and sungold, need to separate them to do a tasteoff
