About the same as the biggest Grushovka, then. I've not managed to get B R to that size. Well done!

They were grown by hydroponics in Wilma systems (11 litre pots with clay beads and Canna Coco nutrient). I've found with other tomato varieties, I get good crops by using this method. I also have some in pots, outside in potting compost, so it will be interesting to see how big the fruit from these are?

Excellent account of growing in growbags!! To be followed by anyone who disses them perhaps?? Generally though think drainage an issue ALL round. Presumably when these newer methods involve measured amounts of fluid??

 

Tbh how much effort is it to fill up a few pots with potting compost and plant your tomatoes.
I just don't get grobags, they were a quirky new idea many years ago that worked, up to a point.
Back then they even contained decent compost.

 

I noticed my plants have more flowers on them than since the flowers began on the first & lowest truss! I might get some tomatoes after all - especially if this hot summer keeps on coming!

 

Like you Balc I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I refuse to buy supermarket ones.

 

I only get enough tomatoes, in a good year, to last me a couple of months! I grow them more as a hobby than really for providing for the kitchen! The rest of the year they have to be from the supermarket.

Which reminds me, the tomatoes we have been buying from T...os have been really ENORMOUS for the last few months! Very little taste to them however!

 

This is why I won't buy supermarket ones, tasteless and full of water.

 

I'm planning on growing:
Honeymoon - best blight-resistant one I've found
Golden sunrise - yellow vines, sweet and yummy
Tigerella - I like something a bit different with the yellow stripes
I've also been recommended Primabella. Any other recommendations? I've only been growing tomatoes for the past couple of years.

 

Taste again, so individual!! As I've said before, raw taste not applicable to me though cooked slowly with a few herbs and frozen for the winter cooking is what they're for. Added to this now is an almost lack of ALL taste!! Thus there has to be another reason to grow them? Its got to be the speed they grow at! I'm not noticing germination that different. However the botanical set up is superb. The way side shoots are 'engineered' and shoot out! OK bush ones are just botanical 'domes'. The others I've seen on here are the multi truss varieties that are stupendous! Using my reason for growing them, then the more trusses, the more fruit! Not necessarily most weight of fruit but this criterion must be important?
Obviously this site, you fellers, have got me thinking about new varieties next season. At the moment one looks like Black Russian!
Also lots of interesting stuff on line re fungal diseases! Much I became aware, I had read before but some newer research!

Just trying a bit of a taste test across cherry types
Tiny Tim, yellow indigo f3, black russian, red indigo f3, ramalet bombetta ...with black russian the tastiest closely followed by yellow indigo f3
