BT have had to back down from that claim now as they can't provide the proper infrastructure in the original timeframe. The completion time is now indeterminate.

They are likely to manage it in towns within that timeframe but rural areas have proved to be rather difficult. Also, a lot of the current monitored personal alarms and burglar alarms can't work with VOIP. Some areas have difficulty getting internet connections and service and a smaller number of areas can't get mobile signals.

I was with Three until recently, they charged 1p per minute then suddenly increased to 10p. I couldn't find a cheap PAYG alternative so I went onto a basic monthly contract as part of my virgin deal. It has still hoicked up my costs.

I make most calls using WhatsApp which are free providing the recipient is also on WhatsApp. WiFi calling is useful in areas where there is no cellular reception but it still costs the same.

Overall costs are shooting up, the era of very cheap mobile charges is over the same as everything else.

After being promised fibre optic for at least the last five years, and promising-looking boxes being dotted along the road and lane, we had a leaflet announcing it's arrival this month. Except.....according to Orange, SFR et.al. we've got ADSL (yes, we know, and it's getting more pitiful by the day) but not eligible for fibre. 401 metres from the nearest box, but not eligible. Grrrrrrr! Wondering what exactly we're supposed to do when they 'switch off' the old, copper wire supply? Tom-toms?

Four years ago they started to put the ducting in for fibre, when they started they were doing the easy bit first but they didn't finnish the job the company just one day stop trading, so we never got it, in the lane they done the first and last parts of the lane but the hard part in the middle didn't get done, so a new company came in to finnish it 3 year later, so we've got the duching but no fibre cable in side yet

I very recently switched to Plusnet for my mobile. It costs me 6 quid per month for unlimited calls and texts, and 4Gb of data.

Often, when you cannot get a mobile signal the problem is your network. When you make a 999 call any network handles it so though you cannot get a signal to make an ordinary call a 999 call goes through with no problem. Though there are spots which are blind to all networks.

Tesco are one of the cheapest for mobile phones and I've had PAYG with them for some years now. I rarely use my phone (for emergencies only) and there is no expiry time limit if I don't use it.

Our village hall is in the centre of our village and no mobile signal can be picked up from there. They can be picked up in most of the village and even from the village school next door to the hall - although the signal is weak.:noidea:

Mobile signal is fine as is broadband, just very poor TV & DAB signals.

I was once told that the TV signal can't be increased because it would interfere with French TV. Strange as I can get at least 4 French stations only in sound.
