Precisely. Which takes us back to the people you are moaning about. They are probably only saying what their own experience/personal knowledge is. How it affected those around them.

So now you've brought us back to the beginning, I guess we've really nothing to complain about. If someone truly believes it's only a cold like disease, well that's good. It means those near and dear to them are okay!

With kids its different, they keep saying it mostly has little effect on them in general.

Either I'm immune or I've not been exposed yet, but for the first year and a half, until my knees went, I was doing all my normal stuff, shopping in the supermarket and going around as normal as the restrictions would allow.
In fact I hated the restrictions and did my best to ignore them whenever possible.

My wife had only just finished chemotherapy when the pandemic started so she was shielding and we were extra careful. I haven't felt unwell in the slightest over the last two and a half years (other than my dodgy joints) and anytime the boss has felt "off" she has taken a test and always been negative.

We both have never had it and that I'm pretty sure of as neither of us had been unwell in the slightest( apart from my dodgy leg issues).
We did do online shopping for the very first ( and last ) time during the first lock down, but not since then.
We still wear masks when out and about in crowded/ confined places. We do still sanitize our hands when out and also shopping trolley handles ( I have always worn light gloves as I hate the thought of the lurkers that are on them ). We do still see friends but I must admit I prefer to meet/ sit outside. Having said that I love cafe culture and the cinema so they are back on my list again but I just take care to mask up ( cinema) or pick were I sit ( outside or near an open window ) in cafes.

Have to admit to being a bit of a hugger....that has been the hardest part. I do still hug those dear to me but have ( tried) stopped using hugs as my main way of greeting or saying goodbye to people in general now.
It is still with us and yes we have to learn to live with it but we should all still play our part in helping to keep it in check and protect not just ourselves but also the vulnerable people out there who are trying to go about their daily lives again moving amongst us quietly and mostly unseen to others.

It looks like Xi was innocent all along...

The notion that COVID-19 began in a lab leak is a "false record", researchers have said, following "compelling evidence" that the outbreak first began at the Wuhan Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market.

Should read "the notion conspiracy theory that COVID-19 began in a lab ..." - it was obvious from the start that the squalid unhygienic food market was the source.

I must admit, when I first heard the conspiracy theory, I imagined Ji Jinping tittering to himself, thinking, 'lets create this virus that will shutdown economies across the globe, massively affecting our global customers, while at the same time badly affecting our own ability to manufacture and ship our goods out. That'll teach em'.

Still, it's got to be better than blaming 5G phone masts.

So what about Sars and Mers where did they come from?
Too many squalid unhygienic food markets out that way as far as I'm concerned.

Last night - headache and sore throat - so went to bed and had a good sleep. This morning - still have the sore throat which will soon be gone with a nice cup of hot tea.

The familiar covid rash on the inside of my elbow is trying to make a come back - but it does look like my immune system is doing a good job of fighting that off as well.

I suspect that losing a fair bit of weight and exercising more has helped me see the virus off fairly quickly.

I'm still not going for a booster jab - I can't see the point.

It now appears that Moderna have come up with a vaccine that is also specifically targeting the omicron variant and the original corona virus.

What I'm finding strange is that when this lot started we had a new variant within a short space of time, the Kent variant, I think there was another one as well, but Omicron seems to have been around for ages and we dont keep hearing of new variants anymore.

I'm guessing because its not exciting news anymore and there are too many other things going on.

Omicron is multiple variants. It is still mutating. I think Omicron is upto version 5 now. They only give it a new fancy name when there's been a significant mutation.

Most viruses get milder as they mutate. The 1889–1890 pandemic, often referred to as the "Asiatic flu" or "Russian flu", was a worldwide respiratory viral pandemic. It was the last great pandemic of the 19th century and is among the deadliest pandemics in history. It killed Prince Albert Victor, Queen Victoria's grandson. It is now known to have been a coronavirus which has since mutated into one of the forms of the "Common cold".

Out of 14 of the past 15 weeks ONS has reported that latest excess deaths for England & Wales have averaged 1000 extra more deaths per week, which is more than the 5 year average. The Telegraph has reported that the excess deaths are not down to covid but down to delays for existing illness and fear to seek treatment. If current trajectory continues, the number of non covid excess deaths will soon out strip deaths from the virus.

My dad (83) had a heart attack early June and spent 4 weeks in 3 different hospitals before having stents. It was only while in hospital that he caught covid, so you can sort of understand why some of the general public fear seeking medical treatment.

Having said that, my dad is doing well. No problem seeing our local GP face to face, our practise has been superb.

Silent crisis of soaring excess deaths gripping Britain is only tip of the iceberg (telegraph.co.uk)
