I hate rural roads for this reason. Not the farmers moving their livestock. That's fair enough. I hate that some drivers think the roads are a race track, and some of them are completely unworthy of their driving licence.

When I passed my test, I remember getting a new drivers magazine. In it was the reminder that driving is a privilege, not a right. I think that's a message that's lost on some people. I also remember a piece of guidance in the highway code. It read something like, always drive in such a way that you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear. I interpret this as don't go flying round blind bends, and be aware of the possibility of agricultural vehicles emerging from concealed gateways.

I think wooden broom handles are about 1,25 Euros here, recently bought one.

To be fair both parties were at fault, the men on the road should have stopped the traffic and the car driver should have know better as she is a farmers wife and a farmers daughter :yikes::wallbanging:, but the way people driver now is bad even agri vehicles driving fast using moblies etc etc

I found out today that ofgem set the price cap across gas and electric combined. I should have realised that before but never gave it any thought til I chanced upon a news article, which prompted me to dig deeper.

This annoys me because at the beginning of this year I took the bold decision to have our gas supply cut off completely. I was proud of this milestone, in my efforts to make my house more eco. I figured with an electricity tariff that only invests in renewable energy, and no gas supply I was doing the right thing. Now I find I'm paying more for my energy because it's directly linked to the price of gas. It's a massive rip off. So much for net zero Britain when it's cheaper to hear your home using gas than it is to heat it with electricity, even though renewable energy is currently for cheaper to generate than gas powered.

I don't see how that effects you @Clueless 1 v2 , you will no longer have the gas daily standing charge so you are saving that way. I think 1 kWh of electric has always been about four times the cost of 1kwh of gas. I am unsure why they are linked by ofgem, does seem illogical.

True, I'll save on the standing charge, but about a year ago all the predictions were that electric would fall in price while gas rises.

I don't regret my decision. I have zero maintenance heating that is as efficient as it gets and looks good too. I just think it's unfair that my electricity price is linked to gas prices, while I'm supposed to be only buying renewable energy which is currently the cheapest to generate. The point simply that the energy companies are completely ripping people off. Electricity produced by gas powered generators costs around four times as much to produce as electricity from renewables, I'm supposedly only buying renewable energy, yet because the wholesale market rate is is based on the most expensive production method, that's what we all pay. I'm not the only one. Upto 40% of the UK electricity supply comes from renewables, only 4% of our energy came from Russia before the invasion, yet we all pay the most expensive rate because our European friends decided it was a good idea to become absolutely dependent on on country that nobody has ever trusted.

                Here's the link for you @JWK ....

Fireguard+ | Best Interlinked Smoke Alarm & Heat Detectors (fireguardplus.co.uk)

At the time of buying there wasn't many packages available, so we decided to use Fireguard which are probably a little more expensive than others that are available now.

After we fitted them it was announced that although they are required by Scottish law, there wouldn't be any prosecutions for those who hadn't fitted them. So no @shiney, you won't have to visit me or Mr. S in jail. But....houses can't be sold without them in place. I don't know if it would affect house insurance here.

It is grossly unfair that the renewables producers are raking it in. Solar and wind generation should not be linked to market prices, those companies should be targeted by a windfall tax. Let them make a steady profit as they took the risk of investing in these things in the first place but not excessive profits. That won't happen as too many politicians have vested interests.

That would be between you and your house insurance company. I fitted FireAngel smoke and heat detector. Three smoke detectors where directed and a heat detector in the kitchen. I bought mine from Amazon.

She is very dead pan, sometimes looks as if no one is at home, knock knock.

Frying pan and fire comes to mind.

I also think she's a national security risk. She went on TV a few weeks ago making direct threats against Russia, then more recently publicly said she doesn't know if Emanuel Macron, the current leader of our nearest ally, was a friend or not.

Still, at least she's going to help with the cost of living crisis. Her tax cuts will add a couple of quid a month to our incomes, so that should sort it.
