Further to cuttings,..i have 'Bowels Mauve',..'Erysimum cheri',..in most cases they show less and less blooms as the plant ages,..plus it grows tall and leggy,..so i have decided to dump mine but took several cuttings as its a nice colour,..cuttings have rooted,..not shown below,..other Erysimum cuttings taken in June and July.

Decided to move my 'Alstroemeria today',..while repotting the new Alstroemeria colorita,..i split off a section of the roots and plant repotted all,..the split section is in a pot in the middle,..
      touch wood.

Also moved the Trailing Lobelia to the right above,..from where it was below,..also took cuttings.

I'll have to try that way of taking rose cuttings, I usually take a long shoot and push it into the ground very deeply. I get a fair rate of success but with potted ones it would be easier to keep track of them

Have to say that I'm pretty successful ( so it seems) at rose cuttings too and all the ones I took from my parents garden are still doing well. I noticed one very tiny one is coming into it's 2nd round of blooming yesterday. :hapydancsmil:

Never thought about taking Alysumm or Lobelia cuttings but do harvest their seeds. Don't they die back?

Hi Michael,..as you mentioned re the potted cuttings i tend to have them close to going out the door so i can check on them every day,..plus i can spot the roots coming through.

I have often just shoved a cutting into the soil,..it also works well for me as for you,..even tried sticking a cutting into a potato and planting both,..works likewise,..covering the pot and cutting with clear plastic is another good way,..i have a good friend who has tried every way i described alas she has had no luck,..i guess you and i would be classed as having green fingers,..i can not understand why cuttings don't work for her :dunno:

Hi Upsydaisy,..welcome to the club of green fingered gardeners :),..its a joy to be able to achieve taking cuttings from your parents garden,..successful is right,..oh yes the Alyssum does die back as does the Lobelia and i find only a small portion of each comes alive come Spring so just in case i take a few cuttings,..3 out of 4 take root,..which is enough for me,..seeds could be collected but i have very little room both in the green house and outside for seed planting,..plus i am addicted to taking cuttings :)

I've never heard of that but may try it. I suppose some people have an aptitude for growing plants.

Not doing a lot in the garden of late,..due to rain,..lots of it,..so just looking out the back door is as far as i get,..walking Foxy Molly very early in the mornings before the rain starts.

Those Alstroemerias are beautiful aren't they, I must try some next summer. Have you got them in the ground or in pots ? (I haven't got much room left in the ground here !)

Looking good and fresh. We are threatened with rain starting Sunday night. We are desperate. The Geraniums/Pelargoniums aren't flowering and look awful although kept watered. They are never happy in constant heat. They are kept under cover at Garden Centers.
