My guess is that the variegated plant is the "sport", from the original green leaved plant.
It's then been propagated and given a name.
@Balc with that in mind I'd say you have propagated reverted shoots.

I have one shoot on one of mine that is completely white, I'll not bother propagating as it probably contains no chlorophyll.

Nearly had me spitting feathers I've never had a second flush of flowers on a Veronicastrum and were wondering how you managed it . Closer look at your picture and realised its a Veronica, mine do have another go at flowering after deadheading. Might try deadheading some veronicastrum tomorrow and see if they do anything.

I don't know the difference between them, I've lost the label for this one so I don't really know what it is. I've always thought of it as Veronicastrum but I'll agree with you about it
I just deadheaded it and it started flowering again. It always does but it's doing it better this year.

Variegated plants can sometimes get green shoots developing and they have to be removed otherwise the whole thing will become green. It has happened with a Pieris and a Box that I had, it also often happens with my Tradescantias and Euonymus but I remove them.

I often find white shoots too. They are always weaker than the ones with green on them. I have a variegated Holly which sometimes develops totally yellow shoots. They die off after a while.

I hadn't thought of it in that way @pete & you are probably right! It makes more sense that a green plant should give rise to variegated "sport" than a variegated plant should give rise to green "sport"!

Practically every year I find shoots that are completely white. They never flower, at least I can't remember ever having seen one flower. I know they will never root even though I've never tried rooting one. They are attractive but are only "parasites" really as they only absorb the energy from the rest of the plant without giving anything back.

The first of my glass corn cobs. Having to wait till they are fully dried is very trying - I'm dying to see the rest! My picture isn't very good, but they really do have that shine you see in the seed catalogue pictures

Apparently you can - ground as flour because they are flint corn. But I don't fancy blue tortillas - so they will be my autumnal decoration in the house

Mirabalis jalapa The dry weather has delayed this this year. This is proving hardy with me and has been in the ground for about 5 years now.

Hi @Michael Hewett - it's schizostylis coccinea (or maybe hesperantha coccinea now). Yes, it does spread but can be pulled out. I've got that and pink version. Garden looks wonderful!
