We all know that there are a few crazies in this beautiful world of ours. They all come out in the comments section of Facebook. But I used to thing of them as marginal enough to ignore.

Recently, my eldest son came home from school and asked me, how do you convince someone that the world is not flat?

My initial thought was he'd heard something that the kids were laughing at that they'd seen on social media. But further discussion revealed that a fair few kids in his class firmly believe the flat earth thing. These aren't thickos. These are intelligent kids with the potential for a bright future. It seems such craziness is not just a fringe minority of tin hatters on Facebook. They're now everywhere.

When covid started, we had local folks trying to burn down the new 5G mast, and I've actually met people that have said with a straight face that covid doesn't exist and that the vaccine really injects a microscopic tracker chip.

I used to take mild amusement from such nonsense when it was just the odd crazy spouting it, but now I'm hearing it from more and more people that I'd otherwise class as pretty normal.

As a dad of two kids, this worries me. For now at least, they have the gift of reasoned objective thought, but I do wonder what will happen in ten or twenty years from now when today's kids run the show, and there's so much crazy nonsense being widely believed.

I couldn't believe the young mother asked what she thought of Liz Truss, on the day of her selection and she said, "Who is Liz Truss?". I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the bulk of the population are really pretty thick.

Many people couldn't give two hoots about politicians, there is hardly anything separating the political parties, so who cares, it makes no difference who is in charge.

Perhaps not thick but certainly anaesthetised by television, Press and internet. When you read how 'the powers that be', including politicians, businesses et al. manipulate the general public, we're well into the era of mind control. Aldous Huxley had it about right....

I too don't give a hoot about politicians but you cannot have lived as an adult through the last few months without hearing the name Liz Truss.

I still think she's a robot but I'm happy to give her a chance - particularly as I don't have any choice!
One of the problems today is that they don't teach kids critical thinking. We were always taught to try and analyse what we read or were being told.

Social media can be good if used properly but that is rarely the case in disseminating information. Although I don't use social media (GC is the nearest I get to it) I listen to friends and acquaintances telling how stupid some things are - and also believing things that are obviously wrong.

I remember in the early days of 5G Mrs Shiney sent me a picture that a friend had sent to her. It was a picture of a tree with one side dead or dying and the grass around the base of the tree was dead. There was a brand new 5G mast near it and the claim was that 5G was killing the tree.

On further checking I found that the grass around the tree was dead because the local council (tree was on council land) had gone round spraying nasty weeds where their grass cutters couldn't reach. They also said that they had condemned the tree because it was dying and had been on their 'to do' list for six months. The 5G mast hadn't been put there six months ago and it still hadn't been switched on!

I've no idea whether 5G may be OK or bad as I haven't bothered to look into it. There isn't one near me (nor any phone mast) and I don't have a mobile phone. :noidea:

We have lots of poo being throwen about here, if the words come from the right people it goes crazy and people belive it but if you try to put the true words back they won't belive you, some of the most basic things can be turned around and go poo crazy

I think it's a form of escapism. The world seems so barmy and run by sociopaths or idiots that it's easier to get immersed in conspiracy and wild concepts.
Or the kids are actually just 'out there!
I worked with a flat earther; there is no acceptable argument for them to agree to an alternate view.

I am waiting for the Conspiracy theorists to claim that the Queen was actually murdered so that Charles could become king.

I've already said on GC that Liz Truss is a robot. You can tell from the set look on her face that doesn't change, her stiff movements and her toneless speech. Pretty obvious really.

I know she is new to the job but during recent events she has looked a bit out of her depth.
If she does the job that won't matter and I assume she will improve her image.

Good grief! It's a parallel universe! :yikes: It also probably explains why there was a high proportion of young girls over here this summer sporting over-inflated lips. Put me in mind of a chicken's bum just after it's laid an egg....
Somebody tell me that there are still 'normal', thinking-for-themselves people in UK...please?
