The cost of living... what can we do?

Ours has a 'laundry mode'. It basically overrides the automatic cut off when humidity drops below the set level. You can put the laundry in front of the fan output side to blow dry air onto the laundry, but it doesn't matter that much as it sucks the moisture out of the air in the entire space that encloses it anyway.

As an aside, my missus annoys me with it sometimes by running it near an open window. She thinks the open window will further increase airflow, but I've mansplained several times that all she's doing is asking the poor little dehumidifier to dry the entire planet, as humid air will just come in through the window. Of course if it's drier outside than inside then her strategy would be right, but in that case the washing should be hung outside.

It is actually only 250w and the daily running cost is estimated at £0.45.

We just put it in the same room as the washing but if the doors are open (and with cats, ours always are) it dries washing in both rooms.

A couple of times over the winter, if I have been out in wet or snowy weather, I will stick it in the car for a couple of hours.

 

Ours is audible without a doubt, but it's only a fairly gentle hum. I'd say no more than a typical desk top oscillating fan.

 

We have run ours outside the bedroom door overnight (I spilt a litre of water on the carpet) and though audible it did not disturb our sleep.

 

Got to ask, but why do you run a dehumidifier over night.

 

I can't see it would make any difference. Ours has a tank of about 2 litres. Even on a muggy day it takes a good 8 hours to suck enough moisture out of the air to fill the tank.

 

Before going to bed I was changing the water in the water fountain we have upstairs for the cats.


On reaching the top landing it slipped out of my hands and the best part of 3 litres of water landed on the carpet. I soaked up what I could with a couple of bath towels from the shower room then stuck the dehumidifier on overnight to dry up the rest.

 

Not much for the bloke in the street in the so called mini budget.

If she really, or should I say he, wanted to cut taxes they should have started with VAT.
Then fuel tax.

They are the things IMO that are crippling the country and stopping things from getting moving after covid.
All they appear to have achieved is a drop in the value of the pound which is making everything even more expensive.

I think Truss is not really totally all there, she looks vacant most of the time and doesn't inspire confidence.

 

But she doesn't want to cut taxes, despite what she might say. She wants to boost the economy which means attracting the high rollers.
