    Does the board operate a predictive text system? A few times I have noticed that what appears does not seem to be what I have written. Of course, it could be that my brain is just worse than I thought it was!

      As far as I know no, but your phone, laptop, or tablet might.

        No, it doesn't have predictive text but it does sometimes try to get you to use the American spelling by querying your spelling with a red underline.

          Nigel is correct, our software doesn't support predictive text. It must be a setting in whatever browser you use. What device and browser is it @erskine ?

          I sometimes find if you write something and decide not to post it often it comes back when you do get round to posting on that thread.

            Yes, it saves it in case there was a problem at your end - like a power cut.

            If you decide, when you come across it in your 'write your reply' box at the bottom, that you don't want it you can delete it by editing it. Sometimes it won't let you do that if you don't type something else into the box.

            You can handle that in a couple of ways. Either delete what was still there and just put in a full stop (it takes that as editing :rolleyespink:) or post it and then click on the delete button at the bottom of the post and delete it. If you do it the first way it takes the full stop as an extra post and adds it to your post count - but it makes your post of a full stop look a bit silly. :heehee:

              I usually spot it's there and delete before writing a new reply, but if you don't notice it it can turn your next post into a load of nonsense. :biggrin:

                    I find that when I write the botanical names of plants they are often changed e.g. Phlox paniculata will come out as Phlox paniculate etc , it only understands English and tries to anglicize the Latin words.

                      @JWK
                      I am using Firefox on an iMac. I don't normally have an issue with predictive text. Just noticed it on here. I thought it was a personal setting, but could not find anything. I will keep an eye of things and make sure that it is definitely not my imagination.

                            I watched a TV programme of 'Room 101' at 3 a.m. this morning. They dumped predictive text into room 101 as being the most annoying. :blue thumb:
