Sounds as though France's health service is even worse than ours! :rolleyespink:

Thank you @noisette47 that is very similar to here, except the A&E remains open but waiting times inside are horrendous.

Interesting you said about the younger doctors, that is another reason the super surgery here is being foisted upon us. It must be more fundamental than just having a nice working environment. Lots more training and better pay are the key, but that needs to have begun years ago, we are paying for the lack of investment right now.

The French government has been offering very generous incentives for a long time to newly-qualified doctors who agree to work in rural areas, not least exoneration from income tax for 10 years and free accommodation! It didn't work. So now they're considering the 'stick'. It will be part of a medical student's contract that they do a couple of years as GP in a rural practice. Remains to be seen whether that puts off youngsters wanting to train.....

I don't think so, there are still wonderful, efficient aspects, like having the result of a blood test (done in the morning) via your computer the same afternoon. No messing about with cancer treatment...it's very quick and very good (for some cancers, at least). Most hospitals and clinics are excellent, but so they should be with the generous funding via contributions and top-up insurance policies. The big difference over here is the divide between urban and rural services. So far, the government have been unable to convince newly-qualified staff to venture out of the cities.

Had a strange result from the surgery this morning.
Rang at 9.30, after the usual recorded sob story the message moved on to say I was no 1 in queue.
But if I didn't want to hold I could press 8 and they will call me back, which I did.
2 minutes later they called back and offered me a call from a GP.

What the hell has happened, it was all so efficient.

This is not a moan just felt strongly enough about the subject to post it;)

Good morning I have nothing but praise for my local hospital "The Medway Hospital" this year on the 6 occaisions I have been there over the last 4 months and have also had 4 scans no waiting and barely anyone else in the corridors which used to be so crowded,no waiting at all from GP to referral scans in 8 days, in fact something has changed for the better in a good way ,the GP and surgery have been pretty good but then perhaps its because I look after their Roses:heehee:

I've been taking my Mum to a NHS hospital. Nice staff and efficient service. I'm not sure why the NHS comes in for such stick - it is an excellent service IMHO.

A lot to do with your experience of the NHS (and any other service for that matter) is how you treat the nursing staff. Show them respect and consideration and you will receive the same right back.

The problem with the NHS is usually how its run, not the service you get once you are there.

I find it's breaching the door that's the problem. Once you get in the service tends to be good but getting to speak or see anyone to go through the ailments is horrendously difficult

With our surgery the three public meetings/protests have produced results. The new Practice Manager seems to be working hard at rectifying problems. The dispensary is gradually catching up on dispensing, I hear the phone waiting is shorter but not by much but the biggest change is that the doors are now open. We can walk in and (try and) book appointments.

Careless drivers! We live a quarter of a mile from a motorway. Today and on each of the last three days the air ambulance has flown over to the motorway. So, presumably, traffic accidents.

Just caught the back end of The Frozen Planet on the BBC 1.
I'm sure it's the episode I saw last week.
What are they up to, repeat after just a week is taking things a bit far.

It is shown on Sunday evening and then repeated for people like me who do other things in the evening, at tea time on Sunday.

Oh,so it's not just a case of padding out the programme schedule then:biggrin:

It's probably on I player any way.

They have been showing royal stuff all week so they shouldn't really have a shortage of stuff to put on.
