I'm looking to buy some of this but I want really thick stuff.
Thickest I've found is 60gr/sqM, which means absolutely nothing to me .

Anyone ever bought good quality thick stuff.
I want it for winter protection rather than just the odd ground frost in spring.

I bought a load in the pound shop and trebled it up. They had fleece bags as well. Believe it or not, it was a quid a packet!

I'm mostly looking for a roll down cover for my cold frame, i was going to double it up.

I've used the silver bubble wrap in the past but I have to tape it all together as it doesn't come in wide rolls.
Also the foxes for some reason really like ripping it to shreds.

Commercially, known as row cover. 60gsm is relatively thick.Standard newsprint is 45-48gsm.
Look for spun polypropylene UV stabilised, rather than polythene. Likely to give 4 degF of protection, not down to 4 degF !

Just an example Pete, a builder's merchant might be a better source, could be cheaper. Black membrane is more commonly used in the horticultural sector as white textile is more expensive.

You wouldn't want to live here then Pete. We get those temperatures overnight occasionally in winter.

I must admit to spending a few nights fishing at Dungeness. That is the coldest place on earth in the depths of winter, so I can understand why you'd want to cover your mid Kent garden tundra with some heavy duty fleece.
Of course, I don't have that problem in the sub tropics of the Sussex coast:roflol:

The weed suppressant stuff looks good and tough but it doesn't seem to be UV stabilised - I suppose because they expect it to be mostly covered up. I bought 'cheap' fleece from Wilko and it started to shatter very quickly in Welsh sun - yes we had some in the spring! Not worth it. I'll wait to see if the one @pete gets works:biggrin:

It's a shame you can't get multilayer under-tile insulation. The 17-layer one makes a fantastic quick-to-assemble jacket or cover.

Probably not, but lasts forever, is water-and-wind proof and much better frost protection :) OK, OK....I'm using what we had leftover from doing the roof.....:roflol:
