Well this should spark some vitriol from Beijing... UK to designate China a ‘threat’ in hawkish foreign policy shift
Liz Truss is the threat. In a short space of time, she's said publicly that she doesn't know if Macron is friend or foe, she's broken the economy, and now she's publicly declared China a threat. We all know China is a threat. I can't see what anyone gains by her saying that out loud.
It's to do with how MPs and officials respond and deal with China. But yes, I don't think anyone will argue that Liz truss is doing a good job!
India is about to drop the trade agreement she made with them because she is already talking about breaking one of the agreements in it! She, and her cabinet, look as though they are purposely trying to antagonise everyone.
I struggle to see how any policies that cause the pound to slump in value at this particular time to be helpful. We always import more than we export so, to me, it seems the wrong things to be doing, bearing in mind the energy problems/ fuel and inflation racing away. I cant see how "Growth Growth Growth", will stop it, well not for the bloke in the street anyway. Looks like the Bank of England has washed its hands of the whole thing now and wont be propping up the pound any longer, just to make the government look good. I think it was in an interview at the weekend when, cant think of her name atm, but I think she might be deputy PM, god help us, who said the Bank of England is entirely independent and they can do what the like. Well it looks like they are.
I remember when labour were last in power and the tories used to make fun of them with their magic money tree. Liz Truss's policies on money can be summed up thusly: We're going to cut taxes, subsidise energy, but NOT cut any services. This will be funded by magic. I'm all in favour of my tax going down, and I'm certainly in favour of energy being subsidised while it's so expensive. But I wish she'd used some actual logic to achieve this.
Its a well know fact that all political parties have a magic money tree. Even the ones that are not in power, I'd go so far as to say that those that dont have cat in hells chance of ever getting in power have even bigger magic money trees.
I did, she's had a month or so and managed to antagonise everyone at home and abroad and further divide her party. She's (supposedly) a professional politician and had plenty of time to devise a workable plan suitable to the country. All truss has done is made the rich richer and I cannot think or see of anything positive to say. If the BoE is washing their hands then that should ring alarm bells and flashing lights but it's all being ignored! Let's hope she's right coz we're looking to suffer right now
Her and Quasimodo need to tell the money markets how this is all going to work, and do it fast. We have to wait until the end of the month for that.
If you follow the main UK based news outlets, NATO is very much NOT fighting anyone. They are merely helping Ukraine to defend itself. If you watch German news outlet, DW News, the message is very different. They're quite open that NATO is kind of fighting Russia and that NATO has been hoping for years to get more eastern European countries to either join up directly, or form interlinked alliances. In the latest piece from them, they're saying that Putin wants to negotiate. NATO officials are considering talking to him but many think we should just threaten him instead. Putin currently has no way out of this war. He has to continue to the very end. I'm not sticking up for him. He's clearly evil and insane. But if nobody will negotiate, then I can't see any peaceful solution, ever. Sure at some point the bulk of the fighting will subside, but without talks, it's just going to be ongoing flare ups forever.
Nato hasn't done to bad in getting more European countries to join the alliance. Nato has gone from 17 members to 30 members since the breakup of the USSR in 1991. I would not be surprised if that figure is 36 in the coming years. I voted to leave the EU, if we could vote to leave NATO, I would. You said that China is a threat, they are probably saying the same about NATO and the West. Expanding NATO only promotes divisions in a region that is already divided. The more NATO expands, the more we provoke Russia, or is that the plan.
