I saw one being captured by a spider! I watched as it was wrapped up though I couldn't stay watching it until it was taken away as I was about to go out to pick up our granddaughter from school. I took these photos when we returned home. When I got to look out of the small kitchen window where the action took place the ladybird had gone! No doubt the spider's meal for a day or two!

Not seen any more of these Harlequins over the weekend. They must have flown away elsewhere!

Red Throated Diver, probably a short stay in Poole Harbour but an early Winter visitor.
The red throat is only seen in Summer plumage and looks fairly plain now.

A very distant Great Northern Diver (Loon in US) with a small Pike, Longham Lakes near Bournemouth Airport. I hope to see some a bit closer during the coming months. GND 4.JPG

Not very good photos due to grey sea and sky but one of three recent Sabine's Gulls off of Chesil beach, Portland. A North American Gull taking a long way round to Winter in West Africa!
Black bill, black leading edge on wings and a slightly forked tail distinguishes it from any UK Gull.

Two birds of prey seen from the bird boat trip around Poole Harbour.
White Tailed Sea Eagles, very distant, part of a reintroduction scheme on the Isle of Wight.
Huge, they have an eight and a half foot wingspan!

Some interesting antics happen in our garden.

Last week two male pheasants had a peck off. They stood facing each other and pecked towards each other without getting closer than about 3". This went on for over 10 minutes.

Yesterday a magpie and two wood pigeons worked together to chase away four feral pigeons under the bird feeders. They worked together in a line until the ferals flew away. A male and two female pheasants, that were clearing up under the feeders, totally ignored them.

An American Wigeon at Shapwick on the Somerset Levels, blown off course from North America, seems settled with our wintering ducks.

This is the only shot I have managed to catch. Our red kite always flies down just over the rooftop behind me so I don't get a chance to see him coming. :noidea:

He has got quite used to me so this time he came down a few times whilst I was pressure washing the patio. He picked up some chicken bones. The green feet of the bird feeder near the top of the picture are five foot wide.

Not worth a picture but I still see bumble bees on most days.
Im sure we never used to see them in early December .
