Looking at it from another angle. If you get blown to pieces by a conventional weapon or a nuclear one, you're still dead. Admittedly if you just end up in the nuclear fall out you might linger a bit. Similarly with chemical weapons. Is there a good way to die, I dont think so.
Do you not think that that is exactly the argument all countries use to proliferate their arsenal? The same one that 'rogue' nations use to create theirs? It's a nonsense. There's enough nuclear warheads currently to obliterate the earth several times over. What possible reason could there be to use them?
Agreed but how do you break the chain. Who is going to drop their guard first. The way things are atm the west could dump all their nuclear weapons and I'm sure Russia would keep theirs. Putin wouldn't give an inch.
I'm under no illusions that it will happen. Until such time as people look back on history and see the obvious mistake of using nuclear weapons and the near end of the human race. Because it always always always takes a disaster before action is taken. Despite all the research, fact checking and signs, big action is never taken to prevent, only correct.
We do have the two bombs that were dropped on Japan as some kind of warning. Small devises by today's standards.
Donald Trump has a lot to answer for. He ripped up a post cold war treaty that was meant to curb nuclear proliferation. Funnily enough it's since he did that that Russia restarted it's nuclear development, and even north Korea was settling down a bit until he did that. But that's now the past, and nobody can change the past. What we can do is learn from it. That treaty that Trump scrapped proved that where there is political will, we can move towards peace. It would be great if the current batch of world leaders could see that but alas, I'm starting to think they don't actually want peace.
I keep reading about these nuclear weapons and I am confused. Yes, there would be radiation fallout however it is the initial impact and ensuing shock wave that kills the most. Really, the difference between one big bomb and an arsenal of smaller ones. MOAB (mother of all bombs) demonstrated the power of shock waves. That said, hopefully Putin will drop dead soon. Literally. He's starting to look like a melon with eyeballs so I think his days are numbered. Now that is a cheerful thought isn't it?
Maybe he died some time ago and they have had him stuffed and mounted. Wondering who they would replace him with.
I hate to say it but I think Putin is positively a saint compared to some of his cronies. That Sergei chap, he's chief defence boss, is, to quote an old saying, as mad as a box of frogs.
Reminds me of the story of the woman with two Capuchin monkeys who die. She goes to the taxidermist and asks to have them stuffed. The taxidermist asks if she wants them mounted and she says "No, just holding hands will do.".
