Our boiler packed up last night! Fortunately it is still under warranty so the manufacturer is sending an engineer but he can't get here until Friday. We have a hot water cylinder, in the loft, and there's an immersion heater in that and I have switched it on and hope it works - never needed it since it was put in.

It was cold last night and the temperature in the lounge dropped to 54F. The sun is streaming through the windows and it has risen to 78F :blue thumb:. We have enough alternate heating to keep us OK in this weather.

Still mild enough here so no heating on yet either.

Hubs keeps very good records of our electricity usage ( hates to be overcharged!) ,so we can always look back to see when the temps dropped enough to need the heating on and last year it was the 2nd week in November.

Our heating is on constantly. Perhaps she uses a lot of hot water. If she is disabled she may not be able to move about much. When my wife was getting her chemo she was frozen all the time, even on a warm summer's day. We were paying over £100/week on electricity and that was back "in the good old days".

Hang on, this is 2022 and we are talking about taking over libraries etc to create a warm space so people dont have to turn their heating on.

I blame Putin, but I also blame all those so called "green" people who got us into this situation.
You cant go green over few decades its going to take until the end of the century, at least.

Nick clegs famous speech, apparently, not heard it myself, but he once said, its no good going nuclear because it will be 2023 before we get anything out of it.

Short sighted waffle from all politicians, for years, along with appeasing the "greens" has got us into this mess. Putin just brought it nearer.

Maybe she can't, but Social Services won't help her.

Well not judging just the one person but you do see a lot like this on the news programmes, as I said, no mention of Dad, which would have been my first question to her had I been doing the interview, if he is dead then OK, sad situation.
If he's out there with more kids then get him to help out with this one first.

Probably out of order, but she had the old Groucho Marks eyebrows.:roflol:

Maybe the kid looks after her. There is a very sad problem that often goes unnoticed in society, because it's uncomfortable. That is that there are many thousands of kids that look after sick or disabled parents. They don't hang out with friends after school or do any of the things associated with childhood because they're too busy looking after their parents and siblings. Social services don't care. I guess they know that if they intervene in such cases they'll have a lot of work to do.

I have no idea of the specifics in this case. My point is we should maybe not judge people without knowing all the facts.

From the experience of a relative, I know that the CSA can only arrest wages for one child by one mother. If a man goes on to father another child elsewhere they can do nothing.

                      Well that needs sorting then.
The Kid was about 2 or 3 yrs old.

We dont know all the facts because they dont tell us all the facts, only the ones that give them a good story that fits with public opinion, which they have created.

That's exactly why we shouldn't judge.

Having said that, I know somebody locally who has nothing wrong with them apart from chronic lazyitis. This person goes about on a mobility scooter despite being able to walk. Granted they can't walk far, and I believe them when they report significant pain if they do walk more than a few paces. But doctors have found nothing physically wrong other than muscle atrophy from inactivity. Basically their lazyitis has made them severely unfit. Others that know this person have even suggested tai chi as a way to gently rebuild the muscles, but the individual concerned won't try anything. I suspect this is because being more mobile will result in a loss of certain benefits and/or an expectation that they look for a job.

So I know such people exist, but I also know they're not all just playing the system (quite why anyone would want to be disabled is beyond me, I've had severely impeded mobility after an accident, and hated every second of it and did everything I could to restore my mobility).

The interest rates have also seen my savings account rates rocket sky high! :hapydancsmil::yahoo::yay:

I got my statement and my interest earnings for the month are nearly double of what they used to be. I'll invest the lot in luxuries, just need to make my mind up between Mars and Snickers. Twix is also a possibility. :heehee:

With the inflation eating any savings, interests earning monthly luxuries ;), interests making any mortgage ridiculous, house price drop tempting to buy, any financial planning is totally hopeless. I guess we must just sit and wait and be as sensible as possible. :noidea:
