Only the latest bar coded stamps will be valid from January next year.

We have around £30 of stamps which we've sent off for replacing with the latest:

We have half a book of xmas stamps. I think there is a strong chance that they will be used up in time.

I thought I read that special stamps would not be affected, but I could be wrong.

I think that's right, it's only the plain ones with just the Queen that will be invalid. Don't take my word for it though, swap them while you can.

                You have money?!

Presumably there will be new notes and coins with our beloved King's fizog, might take a year or two. Maybe they wait till he is crowned?

They have probably printing bank note and making coins with Charlie's head on for a few years already.
They seem to plan ahead on that kind of thing.

Thanks for the update John. They seem to have kept barcoded stamps secret, not heard of them.
Anyway we don't use many stamps these days, just used the last xmas stamp last month.

We seem to have accumulated a lot of first class stamps which don't get used often. But agree about using up our existing stash of second class for xmas cards.

I hadn't appreciated how much stamps cost these days, 95p ! I reckon many people will stop sending cards. No wonder royal mail are in trouble it's self defeating pushing up prices way beyond inflation.
