it transpired that one of the Su-27 aircraft released a missile in the vicinity of the RAF Rivet Joint aircraft

    From Hansard.

Russian jet released missile near RAF aircraft

    BBC headline.

Is that not pretty much what was stated in parliament?

Vicinity: the area near or surrounding a particular place.

    Oxford English dictionary.

I'm anti BBC, but I think it deserved a mention.
Especially as it seems Russian planes have accidents with missiles firing by mistake.

It's fair enough to mention it. I just think the BBC lowered their standards when composing the headline for it. I'd expect it from the sun or the daily mail. I just thought the BBC was supposed to be objective rather than choosing misleading headlines.

I'm not going to stress over it. If people who've never met me and know nothing about me want to make sweeping unfounded judgements then, well if that makes them happy, good for them. I'm all about peace.

The BBC are there outside no 10 all the time with their idiot reporters shouting out stupid questions to people walking down the street, knowing they wont get an answer.

The BBC have reached the depths of most of the media these days, if it makes a story lets flog it for as long as we can and get as much mileage as possible.
      Its the modern way.

I was not making a judgement. I was asking a question because that was the feeling I was getting from your posts. If that is not how you feel I am perfectly happy to accept that. The BBC can be biased in their reporting but I do not feel that is the case here. Their headline was virtually what was said on the floor of the House of Commons.
Let's not fall out over the BBC.

      Nobody is falling out.

I just get frustrated at the fact that the media is totally painting a specific picture, rather than telling objective truth.

I get that the headline is pretty much exactly what was said in parliament, but that doesn't mean it has to be repeated verbatim, knowing it will push a particular bias. I'd expect it from the likes of the daily mail but not the BBC.

Let's consider this. One of my recreational activities is martial arts practice. My whole family participates. It's harmless fun. Now imagine this headline:

Man throws wife to the floor as children watch

It's true. I've thrown my wife to the floor more times than I can count. Always carefully controlled (she knows how to fall), and I've been thrown to the floor by her many times. No competition, just practice of technique.

So while the headline is accurate, it's going to stir up some emotion. Probably anger towards the man that threw his wife to the floor.

An equally accurate headline that takes nothing away from the story might be...

Husband and wife throw each other in family martial arts practice

The story stays the same, the headline is still accurate, but it's objective, and less likely to push a particular bias.

I see that the senior military guy who was responsible for Russian mobilisation - has been found dead at his home. I wonder if he also exited a window feet first?

This is why Russia has got to lose.

I'd be more concerned about their plan to blow up a dam, flooding thousands of homes and taking out a hydro electric plant and forcing the shutdown of a nuclear plant all in one big bang.

No need. The dam is in an area that is currently under Russian control. According to the news, intelligence reports suggest Russia has already set the explosives in position ready. They will evacuate to the other side of the river before blowing it, then blame Ukraine for striking it with missiles.

I see no bias, just reporting the facts. If the BBC wanted to sensationalise the headline, they could have said “UNARMED RAF PLANE INVOLVED IN NEAR MISS WITH RUSSIAN MISSILE’.

I thought it was a special military operation rather than a war?

I thought the Geneva convention said otherwise?

I also thought the UN was supposed to have a say on this, not that that matters, the UN as far as I can tell is a complete waste of space.
