Because MPs are elected. Everyone, or more specifically a majority in their constituency would have to sack them. That can only happen if they hold a local election.

It would be good if there was some clear criteria that automatically triggered an election mid term.

It was more of a general idea, not just MPs.
If you are anyone in a top job you very rarely get sacked, you are asked or forced to resign.
Usually with full pension rights and a large golden hand shake.

I understand Boris has arrived back home to launch a bid for his former job.

Didn't the woke over there already ruin his career over some beer parties?

Yes, he was stupid enough to give the opposition something to get him on.
Instead of keeping his nose squeaky clean he broke his own rules during covid and allowed parties to take place at no 10 which they then got some mileage out of.

He then compounded it all by lying in Parliament and denying any knowledge of it.
He basically made a fool of himself, as usual.

I have seen her a few times on "Politics Live".

Helen was appointed Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party by Theresa May in 2019, and was retained in the position by Boris Johnson. She served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Arts, Heritage and Tourism from September 2019 to February 2020. In the 2020 cabinet reshuffle, Johnson moved her to the post of Minister of State for Social Care. She was the Social Care Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. In the 2021 cabinet reshuffle, Bojo moved her to the post of Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, serving under Chancellor Rishi Sunak. She resigned from the position in protest at Johnson's leadership amid the 2022 government crisis.

Our MP is Jonathan Lord and no-one can say what he does either :dunno: He just seems to wander from function to function looking a bit bewildered

That's what worries me as they move ministers here there and everywhere......Jack of all trades and Master of none springs to mind.!

Surely they should each earn their place on the Cabinet due solely on their field of expertise, not just keep moving around to see were they best 'fit' imo.

Ministers, with few exceptions, tend to be mouth pieces. Their staff are the knowledge base but it's the character of the minister that determines the popularity, visibility etc if the office

I've often wondered who actually runs the country, the people we elect or the faceless civil servants who lurk in the background.
I've never understood how someone can be in charge of say defence one week and health the next, it's just not possible to know enough about what they are in charge of.

He's going to get the job, in my view.
Although it just means more of the same he's probably the one the rest of the world wants so we had better go along with it or Joe Biden will not be happy.
