You are making the common mistake of trying to find logic where there is none.

Let us not forget, we're on about the same organisation made up a whole set of laws dedicated to bendy bananas.

Time-zone differences exist for a reason, yes? Depending on geographical location, sunrise/sunset takes place at different times all over the world, as well as the seasonal differences. So trying to impose one-size-fits-all on an entire continent is never going to work....

Much the same principle...trying to standardise the variable  Thing is....UK has 'taken back control', yes? So why hasn't the UK gov implemented a change to procedure?

A bit of poetic license there. London has been on the same time as Scotland from the days of the early railways. Long before the telephone. And how did they think bookies in Scotland got the racing results, by telegram?

When I was in the Merchant Navy we changed the time zone when it suited the skipper.

Different time zones kind of work, but that's different to daylight saving changing of the clocks.

Incidentally, I think the reason time zones are important is purely cultural rather than practical. Our time keeping strategy is arbitrary anyway. Midnight is rarely actually smack bang in the middle of the night, and a day is not exactly 24 hours long. So it makes no practical difference if the whole world actually went by the same time. It would just mean morning in one place might happen at say 18:00 hrs.

But that would kill Santa, and that would be tragic. He'd still be able to go all round the world in one night, simply following the shadow, but when he submits his timesheet it would look like he didn't work any hours so presumably wouldn't get paid.

Time zones are very different from daylight saving.
Who wants 6am to be in the evening?

If we were all on the same time zone half the planet would be night workers.
or are you suggesting that on the other side of the world people should get used to waking up at 6pm as the sun rises.
Your time has to be based around when noon occurs on your part of the planet.

Oh yeah, all going well, apart from the covid stupidity followed by Putin being a R sole.
Chaos reigns, and I think its going to for a long time.
              Meanwhile stop those rubber boats.
Dover and Kent is full, if it carries on much longer we will have to ship them north into Sturgeon land. She seems to want them.

Ours was done at 2 a.m. so that if was fair to all the shifts as they rotated their shifts.

I wasn't really suggesting anything. I was attempting satirical humour but alas, I'm not skilled in that department.
