I have a friend who is unable to reply to my emails because I use a Gmail address, and her computer is unable to reply to them. She can only reply to other email addresses. She doesn't know why this is and is unable to solve the problem.

Therefore I was wondering if there is a way that I can create a new email address to use when I write to her.
I am not interested in ways of solving her problem with replying to Gmails, only in how I can create a new email address and which one is best to use.

Any help (in very simple language) will be greatly appreciated

Without knowing why she can't reply to Gmail addresses, it's impossible to say how you can solve the problem. If her email blocks generic email (Gmail, live.com etc) then you'd need to set up a private email through a web hosting company.

Is it that she can't reply to Gmail, or that the replies are blocked en route?

Do you know that it is her end blocking it, or is it that your email account has blocked her address?

Just go onto AOL and create an account. I have used AOL since whenever. I have a Gmail account too but never use it.

Do a web search for 'free email provider' and select one. Outlook, Hotmail, AOL...there's a bunch of providers to choose from. Just pick a username and you're done

Thanks for all replies, very helpful ...

I only know what she said - if she replies to any gmails, from anyone, she says they are returned as 'undeliverable' so I thought I'd create a different address so that she can reply to me.

That's very strange. Putting my IT hat on, that makes me think there's one of two things going on. Either a firewall is blocking access to Gmail, or her IP address just happens to be one that's been blacklisted by Gmail. The former would only typically happen on a work's network or other private (but not domestic) network. The latter could happen, if her ISP recycles IP addresses and your friend just happens to have been issued one that was prevented used by someone else who may have triggered gmails automatic spam detection.

You first need to ask her -

          1. who is her actual Email provider, eg .aol , .virgin etc.
          2. how does she send and receive emails, from an ISPs own site, a Web browser, an email client like Thunderbird ?
          3. what kind of device does she use, a Pc, Tablet or Mobile.
          4. how long has she had this problem, just recently or a very long time ans what version of Windows 7,10,11 ?

Think its a waste of time you trying to find a different email address, clearly something very wrong if she cannot use the world most popular email system.

Just a silly thought, make sure she has all the spelling correct in your adress.
Do the e mails bounce back as undeliverable or do you just not get them.
Are her replies going into your spam box.

Her problem is with receiving gmail messages not using gmail. I suspect her problem is having accidentally blocked the gmail domain, it's an easy mistake when you get a junk or spam email you can block the whole domain without realizing.

Anyway Michael did say he is not interested in solving her problem.

            Thanks for all help ...

            This is true.
I don't know why she can't reply to gmails, and I don't care. I just wanted to get a different email address so that she can reply to me.

I understand nothing at all about technical words and abbreviations, it's like a foreign language to me.
My friend is 80 yrs old and understands even less than me. Therefore it is useless trying to ask her anything - I would not know what to ask, and she wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about (and neither would I)
She lives 50 miles away and I am only in touch with her via PMs on another garden forum.

She can receive gmails but can not reply to them. This applies to ALL gmails, not just mine. She is able to reply to other emails. That's why I want to have a different email address. When she replies to a Gmail it comes back to her as 'undeliverable',

and like I said I don't care why, it is too complicated for me, and for her. I just want an email address she can reply to I.E. not gmail.

I shall try one of the suggestions above

Well , probably the reason she gets the Sent Gmails returned to her is because Gmail now need a better form of Authentification before it will allow the email to be accepted into their system.

Its often just a simple setting done either on her computer or via her internet provider, thats why I was asking for her system basics, once that was known it probably would not be hard to find the answer.

Appreciate it might sound confusing, but for you both, feel if would be good if you could overcome her problem, it could also affect you and others if you ever change the way you send out gmails etc.

If you want a new Free email address you might find Microsoft easier as you might already have created an account with them to sign into Windows ?

Edit - what you have not mentioned, when you receive an email from her, what is the end part of here email address at the top of the email eg . hername@aol.com or hername@virginmedia.com

Do people sign in to windows?
I dont recall ever doing that and I wouldn't know how to anyway.

I get totally fed up with passwords and signing into this and that.
I often get asked for my google or chrome sign in, somehow I seem to avoid it which is good because I dont remember ever going down that road.:dunno:

Neither do we, but you can if you want to, good for privacy for multiple users in the same household plus believe it allows you to use the extra services like cloud storage etc.

You should really have the login switched on on windows rather than automatically logging in on boot.

Ideally you should have at least two accounts on there. Your regular one with very restricted rights, so it can't install or run new software, change system settings or anything else. And an admin one that lets you do anything. That way if you get any dodgy malware in normal use, it can't do anything to your system, or not as easily anyway.

Most home users don't worry about security though. They'll lock the front door to their house on a night, while leaving the machine they do internet banking and shopping on wide open.
