A good waterproof warm winter coat (Portwest)

Does anyone have a good winter and waterproof coat for gardening? I've heard portwest are great but not sure which version to get that's breathable as well? Any help would be great.

 

When it's freezing cold and/or throwing it down I tend to find the best thing to do is to sit in front of my toasty woodburner with a cup of coffee and a plate of choccy biscuits!

No coat required!

You must be a true hardcore gardener, lol.

 

Not being a professional gardener I don't need to spend money on professional kit. What I have is a Berghaus waterproof jacket that did service for a fair few years hiking and in daily use until the tapes on the seams gave up, but is fine for garden use, in cold weather I stick an old fleece on or woolly jumper.
Also being light framed I think a lot of the professional gear would be too heavy and cumbersome for me. I also have the advantage that in bad weather there is the greenhouse or as a last resort I can do some housework or just put the feet up.

 

My gardening jacket is very similar to this one, I also have several same make fleeces of varying thickness that can be zipped inside it for additional warmth. Had mine years but the style I have is of a longer length .

I also have a waxed jacket too....which isn't smellie!!!

Not being a professional I like the others just go indoors when it's raining.
But I would think you would be looking at something like hikers use.
Maybe even light waterproofs to go over heavier cold weather gear.

 

Back in the 70's in Lincolnshire brussel fields the "uniform" was some form of mac, forces great coat or similar, a couple of fertiliser sacks tied round the waist with baler twine, yellow marigold washing up gloves, another fertiliser bag tied round each arm and wellies and optional fertiliser sacks on the lower legs to guide the water over the top of the boots.
