Looks quite affective kind of rustic looking.

Now onto the plants , Ceanothus repens would look quite well on top of that wall its evergreen and trail down the wall with blue flowers late spring . Aubrieta as well and maybe iberis sempervires trailing plants will help soften the wall . I can see a cordyline / yuca to the left , a phormium ( look similar to yuca/cordyline ) or two on top of the wall will tolerate the conditions and come in multiple colours . I put something with a bit of height in there as well to break up that fence line .

Problem is with planters you need to maintain them water / feed etc

The wall looks good and my first thought seeing the plates were of targes. I think I'd adorn the plates with a little decoration. :)

targe shield images - Bing images

Trailing plants would give the wall some colour, perhaps Fuschias, Phlox, Rosemary and Dichondra.

Potentilla Fruticosa, Cistus, Hebe, Spiraea 'Goldflame', Euonymus ( the smaller varieties).

Will you be putting many pots for plants on the paving and gravel?

I have some pots that I will relocate once the rain stops!! they will be in front of the wall but dont want too many as it looks cluttered. I can take a photo of the pots and their contents when the weather improves

I will get a delivery of gravel to spruce up the area as it is sparse in places and I will lay down weed control fabric on the top of the wall along with a layer of gravel then plant an array of plants/ grasses along the wall with perhaps two planters in which I will sow wild flower seeds (got a pack in LIDL this year and was really impressed with them) providing and array of color and the planters will be easily accessed from below (step ladder)

What I plant on top of the wall has to be of low maintenance but providing interest

        Evening All,

Been a while so Id thought I would provide some updates to this project

Firstly I decided to work in smaller more manageable sections hence the use of the sections of timber separating the areas....

I began by sieving through the peebles etc to retrieve the drive gravel that was sitting on top of weed suppressant, slow and time consuming but by working in smaller sections was achievable

I also "hacked" into the hedge/ shrub in the corner. Cant take it out fully but cutting it back helps.

I also separated the area I was planting and the rise section to the neighbours fencing with some lawn edging

Also during this change the color on the fence to Ronseal "Willow" - some does that was!!! Took three coats!

Not the easiest area to work with but I can see your progress Will. Not long now before you can get it all planted up. :)

Not easy at all and still a bit to go, as I mentioned I sectioned the areas I am working with and have three sections boxed off with topsoil and compost mixed in to give me a decent bed in which to plant

The lawn edging sections I decided not to dig into the location instead what I did was get steel offcuts and pin these either side of the lawn edging sections to hold in place and these help form the planting beds as such

Some plants that I have purchased

One section gonna plant some heathers - three Erica. Not in the section in the photo below

Also two carpet roses and Diosma "Pink Fountain" along with some anemone bulbs - they look great when they flower. Also in this section I was gonna plant 4 or 5 Imperata "Red Baron"

In the section to the right I have a couple hibiscus and was gonna plant a Skimmia for some winter color and a selection of daffodils and a few other plants whose names escape me

I like your choice of fence paint, it's easier on the eye than the initial colour of the panels.

A nice mix of plants. Have you thought on trailing plants to soften the edge of the wall?

Good evening thanks for the reply and compliments no I haven’t thought of any trailing plants as of yet maybe one so if you have a suggestion am all ears. My wife has spotted some gardens with azaleas so a low growing version will be brought in and also the purple geraniums

Geraniums will trail over the edge to a certain extent. Be careful with your choice of those as some put out runners and come up everywhere making it difficult to get rid of them.

Aubretia though common always flowers well. Some other trailers are Rosemary, Dichondra, Thyme and Creeping Phlox.

                  Hey fellow gardeners

Here are a couple of photos of my back wall landscaping, took these yesterday before the rain!!!

                  Love the Scabiosa and Geraniums!
Anemone bulbs I thought would sprout in Spinrg but later found out they will sprout in summer too!
Carpet roses are loving it too as you can see!

                  Any thoughts or suggestions ?
