Very similar to PayPal, your bank details and card details are never shared with the recipient. By using PayPal and Google pay you actually disclose less financial information than using your cards directly.

On our business website, PayPal is the only way to make a payment. Apart from your residential address, email and telephone number, if you enter one, we receive no information of payment details.

I'd always rather have the money than an an explanation:biggrin:

I complained about something I bought via paypal , no explanation, but I got my money back.

I had Natwest call me about certain payments on my credit card, one was for a hotel stay in Hong Kong, I never paid and never got an explanation.
It just goes on all the time, I doubt the companies even try to investigate, its not worth bothering.

Have you used the website, "TopCashback". You open an account with them, then when you make an online purchase, you make sure you do it through their site. TopCashback is then paid a commission for directing you, which they share some of that commission with you.

TopCashback Official Site: UK's Highest Paying Cashback Site

You could always nip down the High Street with cash in your pocket to buy something. You could easily get mugged. At least if you get ripped off online you don't get a smack in the face or stabbed.

I've used Quidco, it's a similar website that I always buy Insurance and the like through. In over 10 years I've got this much back from them:

Well, I had this great idea to clear out books I don't want to keep on the shelves or read again. That's about some hundreds of them, the bulk is obviously keepers but some are just clutter but might be wanted by kindred spirits. :)

I posted on my Neighbourhood social media to ask if anyone still actually reads books, and got into wonderful conversations about kids books, scifi, Arthur C Clarke and so on, most delightful!

A gentleman was very interested in the books for kids so I photographed and priced (very cheaply, just enough to fund my habit  ) the lot and we had good discussions in private messages about them. The gentleman still had to check with his wife about the details and came back this morning.

            "
            Hello
So sorry for taking so long to reply. Unfortunately I can’t buy any of the books as after speaking to my wife she’s now inspired to have a book clear out!

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through your books though. We really appreciate it.
            Best wishes, "

            :loll:

This really made me chuckle (so sorry for posting in moaning thread), and I did promise that once the gentleman is again allowed to buy books he can pop me a note any time. At least I may have started a trend of book clearing outs

...thinking about it, there might be some interesting bargains to get shortly nearby...

Mrs Shiney has been selling our books on Amazon for a few years. We may get rid of them by 2122. :old:

I just got an email from my phone provider saying reduce paper waste and save the planet and go over to online billing. I replied, save electricity and stop sending me emails about it every week! I already get large print bills because I can't look online too much.

Some of the technology we take for granted today was only developed because of space research.

GPS is the direct result of early satellites coupled with experiments to see if Einstein was right about general relativity (he was, and we depend on that for satnav among other things). The camera in your phone will use a CCD, which is tech developed for space, when folks realised how difficult and expensive it was to get camera film safely down from orbit, to see what the Russians had been up to. The internet relies on satellite links as part of its infrastructure, and the weather forecast is now more accurate than it used to be because satellites can see the whole atmosphere.

But yes, I did raise an eyebrow when I read that the biggest rocket ever has been launched, a day after it was in the news that Russia's war has had a measurable climate impact due to emissions from their missile launches. And I also feel sometimes there's no point caring when so many others, probably the majority, not only don't care, but seem to actually want to increase emissions.

I very much doubt it has made one iota of difference to the climate. When you consider how many jets fly millions of miles every day a few missiles will make no difference. I believe it is just more anti-Russian propaganda.
