          I have been growing Christmas & Easter Cactus plants during the 21 years we have been back in the UK. For some reason over the last year the few cutting that I have have not done very well & are looking most unhappy! :frown::sad: But a Christmas Cactus given to us last year is now forming buds!

          As you say, @wiseowl, they do seem to be later this year. Gphotos shows me every day what photos I took on the same date or day/week in previous years & the last few days it has been showing me photos of my Christmas Cacti in full flower over the years.
          .
          This is what it looked like the day it was given to us in December last year.

            Seeing as you called it a christmas cactus, surely it's early, as there are still 40 sleeps until christmas? It's late as an easter cactus, but quite normal as a schlumbergera!

            See, another reason to use latin names....it stops me being a pedant!:stirpot:

              No it wasn't me @flounder ;)

              There is a beautiful legend about the origins of the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera russelliana). The story is said to be from Brazil, the Christmas cactus’ native land.

              A young boy who lived in the jungle had prayed God to give him a little sign of Christmas in his hot and humid world. As Christmas approached, he prayed even more, but still nothing. On Christmas day, thought, he stepped out of his hut to realize that the jungle had filled with flowers overnight: cacti growing on the branches of the surrounding trees had all started to bloom at the same time. Moreover, with their weeping habit, they looked just like Christmas bells. And so another Christmas legend was born!

                  These are our two from last year which have been rather neglected all this year in the greenhouse but now looking really good.
                  The problem we have found with previous plants is as soon as we move them into the house all the buds drop.
                  Now that there are opening out, will they hold on better if we bring them indoors ?

                    Long time since I grew any of these I always put them in semi shade outside in summer and brought in in October.

                      The problem with these is that they don't like to be moved around once their buds have formed. It would be better to move them indoors when you see signs of the first buds forming . (See my picture above).
