Delete error message.

Hi,



A while ago after a Win10 update I lost my image viewer it bringing up a similar error message to the one shown. It took ages of web browsing but I finally dumped it after going into "SERVICES" Locating Win License Manager where the update had changed it to "Manual"; I changed it to "Automatic" and it instantly cleared the error message.

I've tried and tried to clear this shown message after another Win10 update without success.

I'd very much appreciate any help.

Problem solved; I've just set "Irfanview" as default photo viewer. Two frustrating days wasted but now sorted.

Have you tried loading your Pics with the inbuilt Photo app, can be quiet a handy viewer, we use it as our main Importer from the camera etc.

Also have found this free photo viewer quiet good, gets plenty of good web reviews.

If you want to keep using the actual Pictures Folder direct, might be worth copying all the Pictures folders to another drive, to two separate areas to be safe, then deleting all the files/folders in the Pictuers Folder, then copying them back which might clear the file error ...?

Many thanks ricky for your informative reply. I've now downloaded FastStone and will have a good look at it; I've used Gimp for many years which is brilliant for editing but unfortunately very slow to load. Irfanview is rapid at opening the pictures and is now my default picture viewer.

It was a Microsoft inbuilt app causing problems; I used it forever but I think it's now deleted from updates hence all the troubles I've encountered; at first it was hidden and could be retrieved but now it appears to have been deleted. I don't use Microsoft Edge which loaded itself and took over.

I already back up lots of pics & files to external SSD and also memory sticks.

It was the error message which was driving me mad and the harder I tried to remove it the more stubborn it was; the web and YouTube is full of others suffering these error messages.

All I wanted to do was to enlarge my copy of Lara's Theme music score making it easier to see but I didn't expect it to take over two days due to the nuisance error message.

@ricky101 Sounds like a good programme! I have been using Picasa 3 for years as my photo programme but I think I will download this app & give it a go

 

A timely Warning if anyone just thought they would look at or try Gimp and use Google to search for its site.
Just read that the hackers have set a trap on google so you could end up on their false and malicious sites !

Better to type the URL direcly into your browser address bar - www.gimp.org

@Retired Gimp loads up in about 4 seconds for us on our oldish desktop, and takes about 5-6 seconds to open up our largish Pictures folder.
Wonder if your system needs a clean up etc ?

 

I'm on windows 8 and use the windows pictures viewer.
Are you telling me that in newer versions of windows there is no picture viewer?

I have no interest in picture editing.
But I'll soon have to dump Windows 8, one way or another.

 

As shown above, W10 uses the Photo App which is very good for viewing and importing your pics from external hardware.
It has limited edit functions , probably all you need, though if that changes you can always add the free FastStone or Gimp programs.

If you like w8.1 think you will easily get used to the small differences of W10 or even W11.
Seems a muddle when first loaded with all the things you don't want, but a little time removing them soon make it a slick system, plus with the new Windows Defender anti virus and firewall its as good as the paid for AV suites in many cases.

 

I dont agree in editing photos , personally I think it should be illegal.

 

I use Lightroom (the old free version) and Photoshop CS4 for serious editing. I always edit my photographs. I shoot in RAW format so have to convert them to TIFF and ultimately to JPEG. I seem to have one leg longer than the other so the first thing I do is square the images up and then crop for the image I envisaged when I looked through the viewfinder. Working with RAW images I can open up the shadows and tone down overbright highlights as well as colour correct so that white is white and black is black and neutral colours in between are neutral.
I also find ACDSee a great program for sorting out images.

 

I don't edit my images, apart from reducing the size.

 

Hope you have at least one backup copy of your photos ?

Read too many times of folks utter dismay when their pc drive fails and they lost some or all of their treasured images.
A typical £45 external 1Tb usb Hard drive soon solves that problem or uploading to cloud storage if you are happy with that.
