Is it just me or are charities now telling how much to donate.
Just seen an ad for Ukraine and they tell us just what they can do with £27.

I know what I can do with £27 and to be honest I dont care what they can do with £27 .

I can remember a day when charities we just happy with whatever you gave them, now it seems if its not above a certain level its not worth their effort.

Perhaps it's to take into account the charity's administrative costs, so there's a bit left over to actually send to those in need? :dunno:

I was watching TV earlier and there were only three ads in the break. All were for charities. They were all charities that I support in theory as they are good causes (one of them I have supported for sixty years) but it is charity overload.

I support quite a few charities but do not like being asked to donate a set amount per month. Also a lot of the ads on TV and radio ask you to send a text to a number to donate. They have lost me immediately as I don't have a mobile. :noidea:

A couple of weeks ago we were at the local hospital and there was a stand outside from a charity. We wanted to give them some money but they said they can only accept a monthly donation and it needed to be done by text. They didn't even have a charity box on the table and I said I could provide them with one but they said no thanks. I wanted to give £20 cash and not the £2 per month they were asking. It was for a good cause, Air Ambulance, but it will now be added to what we give for mountain rescue as they take cash.

Charities are really suffering just now. As soon as money gets tight the last thing we do with it is give it to charity.

We have always continued to give to our chosen charities during hard times but not to additional charities during those times. Instead, we tried to give time to them instead. Typically, at Christmas and New Year, serving hot food (local charities or Salvation Army) to the homeless or struggling or helping with the running of local charities. At the moment we are working on seeing whether we can set up a 'Warm Spaces' locally.

They like monthly donations as then they have an idea of their monthly income

We have selected charities but no regular donations, it's more as and when. I've also added them into my will. It's a tough call to give hard earned money away but I try to remember we're some of the richest people on the planet

I donate monthly to 2 charities, have done for years.
                    Both are animal charities.

I'm disappointed with the cold caller charities because they no longer have even leaflets about their cause. Filling in a paper for a direct debit is the only way apparently, I much prefer to select a charity and make a one-off donation but if they can't even give me a leaflet to remember their name it's a no-go.

It's very nice to browse charities and make a meaningful charity gift in name of a loved one. My enthusiastic sailor sister got three pairs of bright yellow wellies for local volunteer coast guards and a hiking friend ten trees in a reforestation woods plus a sign in their donation board (the charity called me about the spelling as the text is in Finnish )

I'm not sure about this Christmas yet. There is so much need near and far, it's a sad world now.

I find most charities have a web site with a donation page and that is what I use for one off donations.l

My moan is actually for yesterday...

For the first time in ages, we decided to have a Chinese takeaway for dinner and I ordered Sweet and Sour chicken.

As I sat down with mine, with it on a tray (we don't have a table sadly, no space) the silly wee polystyrene cup that they send the sauce in wobbled and tipped, all over my leg and my foot. Of course, we had just heated it in the microwave to around 2ºc below the temperature of fresh lava, and I was wearing lounge shorts.

The photos don't really show the scalds all that well, but I can tell you for sure that it hurt with a capital 'F'! Lavender oil seems to have taken the worst of the sting out of it thankfully, but this is definitely not something I'd like to repeat

Ouch! Did you manage to get some ice or some really cold water on it, FC? It's still the best way of lessening burn damage....if you do it straight away. Hope the Chinese went down well anyway, once you'd picked the hairs out of the sauce of course ;)
