Not a football fan by any means but thought it would be good to start a separate thread on the subject.
    England did well this afternoon.
I think there is another country involved from these islands.

    Wales, good luck for later.

I should really say this in the moan thread but it's world cup specific so here goes.

My boss insisted I go into the office today, on account of there being nobody else from the IT department available for on site support, and despite hardly anyone being in to provide support for.

The only support I got called out for was to connect the big TV in the meeting room to the internet so that people could watch some overpaid lads kick a bag of wind around a field.

I wouldn't watch the World Cup if they were playing it in my front garden. I have no interest whatsoever. I am glad Scotland are not playing as that would mean even more coverage. I'd rather watch election specials for a month.

I have only watched highlights of the games so far, there seems to be plenty of empty seats and very little atmosphere.

For the Qatar v's Ecuador game they announced the official attendance being 67,000 yeah right. Not only were there hundreds if not thousands of empty seats, the stadium actually has a capacity of 60,000. It was the same for the Dutch game, official attendance was greater than the capacity, again empty seats plentiful.

                    Well done Wales.
A shame you didn’t turn up in the first half.

I heard that many of the locals left at half time when they realised how bad the Qatar team really is. It's pretty stupid to hold the World Cup in a country with zero football heritage or ability.

I don't think there will be much atmosphere. I went to some of the 2012 games at Wembley and the crowd was completely different to a premier league game, mostly it was families and people with little interest in the game just attending because it was a big event. Most were on their phones all the time not watching, the blokes there were trying to explain the rules to disinterested girl friends.

As I said earlier, I'm not really a football fan, I dont follow the league it just reminds me of horrible boring winter Saturday afternoons when I was a kid and all there was on the box was football.
But I do take an interest when the National team plays, I actually want one team to win then which is I suppose what it is all about.

Still think the offside rule needs doing away with, would make the game much more open and more goals which are what people want to see, 90 minutes of nil nil does nobody any good.

Its the same with tennis, I watch Wimbledon, but couldn't give toss about any other tournaments.

I like my football I've missed the games today but a huge upset Argentina getting beat :loll:, wales were a bit poor yesterday fortunate to get a draw and England are already getting a bit to carried away already they played Iran for god sake but still a good performance . I watch the Holland game as well didn't think much to them either Senegal impressed more possibly would of won if Mane was playing.

Good evening I just love watching football from school children on a Sunday to the England team I have been to wembly many times I was there in 66 and in 74 when Brian Clough said the Poland goalkeeper Tomaszewsk was a clown and then saved everything we threw at him and knocked us out of the world cup I always feel so proud when the England team play win or lose and I feel just the same pride with all sport, all the critics and negative people can say what they like, come on England:sofa::heehee::heehee::heehee:

The Qatar all Stars football league does not average more than 1,000 fans per game over a season.
FIFA and Qatar are doing exactly the same as the IAAF did when the world athletics championships were held in Qatar, exaggerating attendances and ticket sales.

World Athletics Championships 2019: Free tickets handed out in desperate bid to fill empty stadium in Doha | The Independent | The Independent

I have not seen any highlights of today's games but apparently Argentina v's Saudi Arabia attendance was 88,012, not bad for an 80,000-capacity stadium. Like the athletics held in Qatar, there will have been a high percentage of tickets given away to create an atmosphere plus to justify them awarding Qatar the championships.
