Just popped in to say greetings and salutations. I am a 78 yr young codger who bought a house, a couple of years ago, with a garden (for want of a better word), surrounded by a 1.8m wooden fence. Had that ripped out, pronto, and replaced it with a 1m Cornish Hedge, planted a mixed Hedge, and opened up a few beds. The plants are as confused as me with the weather. The hollies in the hedge decided, about a 2 months ago, to come into growth and flower after doing NOTHING all year. One of the Hamamelis mollis went onto full bloom weeks ago, while fully leafed. All the Prostanthera cunneata are covered in their white flowers and 2 hollyhocks were extemely precocious, coming into bloom at about 5 months. As for the herbaceous plants, as fast as I clean them up for the winter, they burst into new growth. Crazy, but fun. Fof

Hi all Thanks for the joyous welcomes. Victoria - Yes I am in West Cornwall, now. Before that I was a bit nomadic, for a while, after returning from the Land of Oz after nearly 30 yrs. Here are 3 pics, supplied by the Real Estate of the place, when I acquired it, a couple of the mixed hedge (with wild flower backdrop) and a couple of the Cornish Hedge being built. Welcome to GC . It's an interesting project. I can't understand why the previous people had bothered with a double fence which cut the front garden into such a narrow one when they had already fenced round the property. They certainly seem to have had a privacy issue. Maybe it was to keep the dragons out. You're not near Helston by any chance, are you? It looks much better now.
Hi Shiney, I’ve been to Helston a few times, lovely place, we stayed in Praa Sands quite a few times for our family holidays, we alway said we where going to move there, but unfortunately it didn’t happen
Hi Shiney. When the small estate was constructed, they decided not to build #13, so I am in #11, next door to #15. That meant the unused plot became the garden for #11. The previous owners came up with a PLAN!! They drew up plans and got outline planning permission to build the "missing" house, fenced it all off and tried to sell it. Only 1 problem. Whoever bought it would have had to do MAJOR ground works first, as both stormwater and foul water sewers run down the middle of the garden, and you can't build over them. Yes, I am about 8 miles from Helston.
