Strikes. I'm now fed up of the extent and breadth of them and it was the RMT that set me off this morning.
I appreciate people want a fair wage but I cannot get behind behaviour that is so detrimental to the wider public and that happens so frequently.
There isn't a magic money tree and most of the country are feeling the pinch so where do the unions think the money is coming from?

I was listening to a phone in on the radio and three nurses, in just the ten minutes I was listening, said that they wouldn't be able to get into work over the Christmas period. They all said that they couldn't afford to go by taxi and couldn't afford to lose pay so they would be going 'sick'! Although I don't like the idea of them doing that I can certainly sympathise with them. So don't get sick over the holiday period!

Nurses I think did get a raw deal and I believe they resent being forced to strike. The RMT do it so often (it seems to me) that whatever their message is it's just noise now.

They, and the labour party, keep wanting the government to get involved directly with negotiations, only because they want more tax payers money.
I don't know the details but they are also against any change to working practices, I think it's still being run like it was in the 70s.

I didn't know driving examiners were so disgruntled! Not really bothered about them as fewer drivers is good from my point of view

I'd rather have a 5% rise of what a railway worker gets than 10%of my pension.

I always paid my staff sick pay if they were really sick and I would know if they were just skiving or not  - especially if they took a Saturday off after being out on the town on Friday night. :heehee:

They rarely went off sick as it meant that they were putting a lot more pressure on their workmates - and their workmates wouldn't stand for it if they found out.

In the construction industry unless you were staff, ie. monthly paid you never got paid for sick days, you had to have 3 days off before getting SSP which was about £70 a week.
I know most are now self employed but I never was, some still arn't, and never got paid for time off sick unless it was longer than 3 days.

                        Bonfires!!!!! :wallbanging:. :campfire:

Went out at 8:30 to hang the first of two laundry loads on the line. The washing was purposely done today as we have brilliant sunny drying weather.

While hanging it out I saw tiny white bits floating everywhere...at first I thought it was sleeting...but then large black bits came by too! Suddenly I heard crackling ,peeking over the back hedge I saw ,over the far side of the allotment , a huge...really huge bonfire burning away with flames everywhere. The worse bit was there was another huge stack ( the size of the burning fire) waiting in the wings with more additional stuff to chuck on...boy was it smokey too, drifting over our garden..and at 1pm it still is.
Washing is still waiting to go out to dry, but not today now. We're also going out soon so I wouldn't have left it out now anyway.

How I detest bonfires, we can even smell it in our house now too!:mad:

@Upsydaisy we are not allowed open bonfires without a special permit for each one. And those are pretty much never granted unless you are nowhere near housing. I do burn wood in my wood oven but I carefully control the air supply and venting so as to minimize any smoke. I never use the oven in the winter as I've already baked all the soil to be reused.

We are not allowed to burn piles of leaves either but I must admit, as a kid, I liked the smell of maple leaves being burned.

                                That is awful!

Our allotments ban bonfires except for the first two weeks in November. They cannot be lit until after dusk. This is to be considerate to residents. Breaking the rules means being thrown off your plot.

You must complain to them @Upsydaisy and if they ignore you go to the council, most allotments are council owned and just leased to the societies. The council would and does step in here if anti social rules are broken.
