    Good morning everyone.

Brrrrrr...it's a tad nippy here, down to -5C last night and dipping to -6C tonight!!!

The only bonus is that the days have been absolutely beautiful.

Going to attempt pegging the laundry out again so :fingers crossed:.

Posted all our Christmas cards yesterday, we have 6 more days of postal strikes coming up before Christmas ( next one due tomorrow) so it's a great sense of relief getting them all finally in the post box.

What a strange time of year it is, it's suppose to be happy but cards received often bring very sad news .

My dear friend who I have known since our school days informed me in her card that her hubs ( who sadly I did know was very ill ) is now receiving palliative care at home.

My cousin's card told us that her hubs had been feeling off colour and in September he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which had spread everywhere . He went downhill very quickly and although my cousin wanted desperately to nurse him at home it was decided in the end that he would be much more comfortable in a hospice.

Thankfully my cousin's children and adult grandchildren are there to support her. She emigrated to Canada back in 1970 and since my Aunt and Uncle passed away a good few years ago now she hasn't been back here. She had no siblings. She said that I'm the only family member that has kept in touch with her .So sad

Both she and my friend are going to undergo some serious memory making this Christmas.

My heart cries for them both.

I had pre written my Christmas email to my cousin ready to send out this weekend, now I am going to rewrite it.....but with what words....:noidea::sad:.

Off to visit my sister this afternoon, I haven't seen her since I went down with the cold bug, so looking forward to seeing her and not forgetting her beautiful cat.

Have a good day and keep warm.

Rain on and off. Van dashes in and out of it but Munch sensibly stays indoors. :cat-kittyandsmiley: The sun has momentarily broken through.
Sorry to learn of all your sad news Upsy. :imphrt: xx

Today is one of our National Holidays, Immaculate Conception, a Religious one, so I think perhaps it is a lazy day.

This is my coffee mug. In the colder weather I sometimes have a milky coffee (galao) mid afternoon and here they are served in a glass.

              Good day
It is still mild 38f 3c and the clouds haven't managed to cover all of the blue. A wonderful day for a drive.

@Upsydaisy sad news is always a downer and usually it there is stress on behalf of the person added onto your plate for good measure. I sat next to one of our group, for lunch yesterday, who had lost her husband 5 weeks ago because of evil cancer. I just told her if she wanted for anything to let me know and I'd be her Huckleberry. Or if she just wanted to cry, she could call me and we could cry together. And I meant it.

Enjoy your visit with your sister. :) I wish mine was still here. She's been gone 4 years now.

              Like the mug @Victoria !

The lunch and show and coffee and desserts were fabulous yesterday. Lots of smiles and some good laughs.

I got advice this morning that my fork came into the NY address so I will flip over the border this morning to get it. And a few other small items. They always have different little "stocking stuffers" that you can't get up here. So a fun little trip. :blue thumb:

              Cheers all :coffee:

Brrrr Good morning everyone, have you defrosted yet?

Another load of laundry done and ready to go and freeze dry on the line.

I'm off into town early this morning as I need to get some shopping. Would have preferred to go later in the day when it may have warmed up a tad but have other things planned for this after unfortunately.

Please take care everyone if it's a bit icy your way.

                Keep warm.

Ours have a similar bed in dark wood by the fire. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Morning. Had a good storm around 4ish and various spells of rain. It is brightly grey and quiet now with the sun trying to break through but rain forecast all day ... and perhaps the next ten days.

Still no Internet, still no car. It seems my plant has been transferred from DHL to CTT (our Royal Mail) in Lisbon saying destination Algoz, where our box is, so who knows what is going on.

J doing a guitar deal today (selling) and meeting John for lunch as he has tested negative all week.

Do you have a PO mail address in The States Lori or use a friend's address? How long does it take you to drive?

Be safe on your journey Upsy.

                      Good day
It is 28f -2c which is still very mild for us at this time of year. We're expecting it to be partly sunny but during the cloudy periods we will get flurries. No biggie.

@Victoria that is ridiculous. I hoe they give you some months free of charge in exchange for this lengthy interruption!

I have a "suite" number which is probably just a number taped to the front of a section of storage shelf. It was my first time using this service but all was efficient. The place was a dump in a section of town that had mostly boarded up buildings. It cost less than the old service that shut down and I had to pay cash with no receipt. I don't really care about a receipt because I certainly wasn't going to be doing any expensing with it! I noticed UPS and FEDEX over here quite often turn shipments over to local postal services at the last leg of their journey. Both of mine were originally shipped UPS but delivered at the end by the USPS.

I didn't purchase much as the shopping was miserable. The stores only had junky stuff and very little variety so I only spent $40. A point of interest is that their prices were the same as ours however, when you take into account that their dollar is worth a lot more than ours and their minimum wage is much lower, I wonder how the poor devils who live there survive. Even petrol is the same price!

Today I start making the cookies doughs in preparation for my weekend of marathon baking. I also have the husband of a good friend, who now lives in Quebec, coming by for lunch. He is picking up a Christmas parcel for her and we'll catch up on news. They lived only a couple of kilometers from me until 10 years ago when she inherited a little house in that province and not far from Mont Tremblant.

The recycle and rubbish is all at the kerb and I'm going to catch up on the news and then get out the big mixer to begin concocting.

                      Cheers :coffee:

                        Afternoon/Morning Lori
That is interesting. DHL is now owned by Deutsche Post and many years ago they would deliver to the Post Office to our box and we would get the note to collect in the box and walk a few steps to the counter to collect. There are only 200 boxes and one window. Generally couriers will not deliver to boxes only street addresses which of course we do not have, however the mobile nimber is the second street address line.

Also interesting about the price comparisons. What is minimum wage there?

Have a good day ... I know it will be productive and luncheon.

Sorry, didn't respond to this. J got an actual phone call from someone apologising but when asked said there would be no compensation, not even for the money he has to keep putting on the mobiles to keep us going. Many years ago we were out for two weeks in December, fixed us on 26 December and compensated us.

$13.20 is the minimum in New York and $15.50 in my province. I always mentally make the conversion for US goods to Canadian dollars but the shocker to me was that I didn't need to. The price tag numbers were almost the same as ours but in USD.

That alone made them 30% higher than our goods. A total puzzler!

Even the Sun has had enough of these minus temps now!!

Good morning everyone we survived another -7 night last night and now things at beginning warm up a bit today, albeit very slightly.

Oh dear Vicky you are having problems, how frustrating. I hope you get some good news on all the issues very soon.

We've never been compensated when we've had prolonged internet / landline failures but my Dad was. Not sure if it's an age related thing...shouldn't be really imo.

Looking forward to a quiet weekend, we've had either visitors or somewhere to go every day this week.
Ideally I'd like to just chill and attempt to finish my nearly completed jigsaw puzzle, not too sure how likely that will be.:) We'll see...:fingers crossed:.

I must also decide what image/ theme to use next week, I think the Sun needs a well earned break after shining so brilliantly for us for most of the week..

                              Have a lovely weekend yourselves.

                              :spinning:

... or so they say! Still no Internet, no car, no plant. Plant now said to arrive today-Monday or I can have refund today. Do I wait to see what state the plant is in after 18 days then request refund?

Morning all. Sun has broken through the cloud, 12c going to 18c, with a big storm coming in tonight/tomorrow.

Haven't a clue regarding what's what today but suspect not a lot.

                                Have a good one everyone.
