Exactly this. The result of people constantly looking for opportunities to take offence is the exact opposite of the 'inclusion' they campaign for. Some people are foolish enough to express interest. Most people have realised by now that it's safest just to ignore anyone that isn't a carbon copy of themselves.

In the UK, we often hear in the media about 'the Muslim community' or the 'Hindu community' or whatever else is the flavour of the day. Hardly inclusive. It's not society moving forward. It's very much society going backwards. When I was a kid there were no specific communities, or ethnic minorities, or deprived communities. There were just people, and community. I remember when I was little. I made a new friend at school. He was one of very few people I'd encountered that had dark skin and he talked different. One time I asked him about it in the direct straight to the point way kids do. He replied that he was Chinese, which was exciting to me, because he was the first person I'd met that came from what we used to refer to as the Orient. I asked him if that meant he was good at karate. Decades later I realise how racist that sounds, two reasons, I assumed that everyone from China was an expert in martial arts, and because karate originates from Japan, and is a Japanese term. Did he get upset? No. He told me his older sister knows a bit but he isn't interested in it. We then continued playing whatever game it was we were playing before this little conversation.

Imagine that nowadays. Now I'm a dad, and my youngest son is just a tiny bit older than I was then. Even the thought of him going up to a kid in school and asking about their skin tone or making assumptions about them based on their ethnicity just makes me cringe.

The more we force multiracialism the further back we will go.
Just let people get on with it and stop policing it.

I can dislike Fred but I must not dislike Mohammed.

I'm looking at chipper hire costs today. It's another expense I could do without but frankly all my neighbours with overhanging trees and shrubs are nincompoops (I might have used a different word there). None of them take responsibility for their overhanging stuff so it's left to me to chop it off as high as i can get and to shred it.
I really wish, as a Christmas present maybe, that they'd change certain laws so we could at least dump the owners branches back on their property, but ideally force the buggers to maintain it themselves!!

I love the word nincompoop! :heehee: Doesn't that mean they would have to parade onto your property though?

I might be wrong, but I think such law already exists. Before you decide what to do, I'd suggest you double check, but here's my understanding of the law.

The overhanging branches of your neighbours trees are still their property, but as they are trespassing onto your property, you're allowed to remove them. Having removed them, they still belong to the neighbours, so you are supposed to give them back, or else it's technically theft (although it would take a special kind of weirdo to call the police to report you for stealing an overhanging branch).

In the course of all this shenanigans, you also need to be aware of your neighbours rights not to have their property damaged, which makes the whole thing quite unenforceable and therefore farcical from a legal perspective. I take that to mean you can't just fling the cuttings over without regard for what they might land on and break, but rather you have to stack them neat where they'll cause no damage, meaning in effect you have to trespass onto their land unless you can carefully fling them over to land on something that definitely won't be damaged. Also, while you're allowed to cut the overhanging branches, you're not allowed to damage the tree that they came off. I guess the challenge is to define damage.

It's farcical contradictory laws like this that make me really glad I'm not a magistrate or solicitor. Although it would be fun to sit in and listen to the legal exchanges if two parties did bring all these vague and contradictory laws to court.

Oh I've look into and been frustrated with the laws and arrangements for some years now... You're broadly correct in that you should offer the trimmings back but they're not obligated to recieve them and you cannot just place them in their property (fly tipping even though it's returning their property :rolleyespink:). It's all absurd and absolves the owners of any responsibility up to the point where a branch drops on someone at which point people will take notice. It also means that, for some trees at the back of my property I've had to apply for works on the TPO controlled oak trees and I'll have to pay 3k for the work and the owner can then stick his head over the fence and tell me he wants the oak logs for nothing! AND still make me remove all the other waste of twiggy branches etc.
                  Imagine how happy I am...

How does a dashcam picture prove a vehicle is not taxed or have a valid MOT?
Both my trucks still have expired 2015 VED disks showing, yet they are both taxed and plated.

Yes, I know. But what would you look for or be a reason that would make you check up if a vehicle was taxed and had a valid MOT online in the first place.

One of my trucks has been in the body shop, longer than expected, during that period the tax and MOT had expired. When the truck was picked up, if anyone took the details of the registration or if it was stopped by the police had they done a vehicle registration recognition check, there would of been no prosecution. We only picked the truck up when we had received a pre booked test date after contacting the appropriate authorities to inform them where the truck was been driven to.
