A quick look round this morning, looks like a nuclear attack took place.
A 9ft high Echium that was in its third year and would have probably flowered next year.
And others that were doing well. DSC03533.JPG

Washingtonia is going to be touch and go I think.

Butia will hopefully be OK just as long as it doesn't last too much longer.

Basjoos probably back to the ground again this year after getting away with it last year.

Min temperature under the cover for the Strelitzia etc. I've just bought this digital thermometer and it seems to read a degree higher than my mercury ones.

I'm sure the palms and banana will survive, @pete. I'm not even going to look at my borders until Tuesday as we're forecast -5°C again tonight  And this is only December! It doesn't augur well for Jan and Feb.

Week ahead forecast for here is no let up really, more really cold weather, its not so bad if it gets above zero during the day, but max here today has been minus 1 and its dropping again now.

The main loss here maybe the flowers on the Acacia, there are tiny buds all over the lawn. It has been virtually frozen for four days now. Osteospermums left in may or may not survive and the Callistemon flowers went two days ago.

That Rosemary looks very different like that - with the hoar frost on the leaves! :dbgrtmb: Hoar frost makes everything look more "fairy-like" & makes some wonderful patterns!

Cordylines Sunrise and Dazzler 'may' come through but I doubt they will ever look as good.

Some of the Acacia leaves looking brown but some in the middle are green but might have a reasonable show of flowers despite loosing lots of buds, unless there is another freeze before February.

My Furcraea has had it, 6 years from seed and it still hadn't flowered:

My last insurance Furcraea, a lot smaller in the unheated greenhouse looks sorry but might pull through:

Mine has probably had it as well it survived last winter ok but I think this freeze has probably killed it.
I wonder if they sucker around the base.
