Continuation of the saga. Four vans and a digger turned up this morning. They all gathered around the man with the computer supposedly showing where all the electrics were in the road. They started shaking their heads and all of them went away half an hour later. They'll each get paid double time for coming out on a Sunday. I've a feeling they had no intention of doing any work.

@shiney I think we are dealing with the same people ... they flit between you and me and accomplish nothing.

T'other Half went shopping and passed the melee causing us misery and guess what? no trucks or workmen in sight. However, the other side of the citrus factory there was a similar situation ... so no connections between the two down sites with downed wires.

It's scam time of year. Please be careful.

Today I received a text message from Evri. It looked legit. It said sorry we missed you, nobody answered the door, please follow the link to arrange redelivery.

All looked legit except for two minor details. I was in when they supposedly came, and nobody knocked on the door. Also, I have not ordered anything recently.

I'm very careful with phishing emails and spam, but if I had been expecting something I might have fallen for this one. Phishing scams have moved on from the days of terrible spelling and grammar so they're harder to spot. Please be careful.

I've just had a parcel go missing with Evri , first time I've had a problem with them . Contacted the company that sent , they got in touch with evri , parcel lost so I assume the company got a refund . Anyway they sent out a replacement with Evri again :rolleyespink: obviously thought the worst got a email off evri its going to be delayed ( lost again to me ) it turned up the next day :) . Same with Royal mail had some bulbs ordered sender said royal mail have your parcel  ( they turn up next year now ) arrived a couple of days later :).

I had a scam phone call a few weeks back about replacing fibreglass ( think they said fibreglass ) loft insulation , they were quite pushy saying thing are free / inspection free blah blah , anything whats offered free immediately starts alarm bells . I binned them off anyway and google it for scams  some poor soul will fall for it though .

We get a fair amount of scam emails (no text messages) but they are usually easy to spot. First of all we never click on links in emails received, secondly the email addresses they are from usually have some clue as to it being the wrong origin for it. That's apart from almost never expecting anything from the purported originator company.

Almost all delivery companies will not send a link in their email (and, probably, text) and if you were not in then they would put a note through the door. If the message seems genuine then you should still not contact them but contact the person/organisation that has supposedly sent it.

Royal Mail never fail to impress me - but not in a good way. Next day delivery means in about a weekish to them.

I always go for another courier even if it is more expensive. Never had any problems with Evri - I think that poor service is down to your local Evri courier - we have a gud un round ere.

As for Royal Mail going on strike - I don't think anyone will notice.

There was a Pay Pal scam on the TV this morning, they said it was a good one in that it would catch most people out as the site you went to and the phone call appear to be very authentic.
Must admit, either they didn't explain it very well or I'm thick but I couldn't quite catch on to how they were doing it apart from getting you to call them and then they pretend to sort out the problem.

Also, on scams, please note that the government advice on detecting them is in one place completely incorrect. As wrong as can be.

They say, look for the green lock symbol that indicates a website uses Https and is therefore legit.

That is completely wrong. All that means is the scammer has paid an extra £2.50 for an SSL certificate for their dodgy website. I could set one up in ten minutes.

                Https does NOT mean legit.

Also, if you receive any emails that are Phishing (most of the dodgy ones) or scams then forward them to [email protected] and then delete them.

P.S. don't click on that link but check it out on an internet search first. Always be on the safe side :heehee:

Any telephone call I get from a business I ask them, "What is my postcode?". Bona fide callers know who they are calling.

Finally managed to get hold of Dunelm. "We will send a replacement 23rd December!" Told them to stuff it where the sub don't shine. Will never buy from them again

Last night thieves stole a pair of metal gates from a Surgery in Margate. Unbelievable that the scrap men work through the night.

I thought that this is the prime time of year for thieves and burglars? Long, dark nights, gendarmes preferring to stay in their nice warm cars and hassle the odd motorist etc....
