LATEST MOAN FROM YOU AND ME - 2022

The boiler had packed in over night so we woke up to a delightful 12C. Nothing of the usual suspect procedures helped so I booked an urgent repairs via our landlord.

Thankfully we have just bought a tiny electric heater which kept us going until Martin the Engineer popped in around lunchtime.

Turns out that the whole drip tube outside was frozen solid. It was cut off and the boiler started. However, apparently the thermometer also died and needs replacing and in the meantime we must manually switch heating on and off from the boiler. Next round of repairs is booked in which is great. Sort of.

I moaned to my manager over Teams that running the electric heater all morning probably cost me a fortune so can I have a pay rise please, and her reaction was I guess that's a "no".

It also turned out that just like us, Martin the Engineer doesn't like mince pies. We are still left with a box that came in a work Christmas hamper. I'll ask the Tesco driver tonight.

Hopefully tomorrow is less eventful.

 

We had a brand new boiler installed by our Social Landlord just over a year ago, I wonder if it will have to be changed some day for hydrogen gas? The old one had been here at least 40 years! I asked the engineers on several of their annual inspections about us get a modern boiler & they all said our old boiler was better than the modern ones!

 

My BIL worked for the gas, firstly Segas and then Transco, for 50 odd years.
I asked him about changing my boiler and he said the old ones are more reliable, a new one might be more economical but it could take many years, after paying the price of a new one, to get your money back.
Trouble is when you cant get spares anymore.

I used to maintain specialised equipment with very expensive high-voltage relays in the control cabinets. One relay occasionally stuck preventing operation. All it took to free was a well-placed knock. It should have been replaced but it was a pig of a job and a very expensive part. After being called out one winter's night to the issue I carefully marked on the side of the panel where to hit and instructed the operators accordingly. No further callouts and mucho money saved.

 

Although I have received a refund for my missing plant, I am very annoyed with DHL because their last tracking says redirected to new address at Recipient's request. This is false as I have never changed my address. I have written DHL Customer Service and asked to whom it was delivered as it has to be signed for..

 

If you were expecting a parcel from Evri, it could well be in woodland in Chatham.

Strange things happen in that area, dodgy at the best of times.

 

Well MEO (our Landline/Internet supplier) now says we will be back on line on the 19th. So T'other Half just had a guy here and has signed up to Lazer for Internet and they will connect on Tuesday and we get a free 15-day trial. We will stay with MEO (ex Portugal Telecom) as we have had our landline number for 22 years ... unless we can find alternative where we can keep number, but we doubt it. Oh, life ...

 

So Chatham is not an area you would recommend, to many dodgy characters in that area.
