The climate of this planet has been changing for millions of years - for us to suddenly believe that we can control it is arrogant at best. I recently read an article (think it was BBC) wringing hands with all the latest scary buzzwords such as "climate emergency" "climate crisis" etc... and in that article they were showing concern about ice that had melted so much it had exposed tree stumps from many hundreds of years past.... think about it.

A medieval-era map, discovered in a Turkish palace in 1929, is dated 1513, yet it shows a knowledge of faraway lands well beyond the areas European explorers had travelled and even shows land features Europeans couldn’t possibly of known about in 1513…like the Andes Mountains of South America and the coastline of the Antarctic under the ice. The map, drawn on a piece of gazelle skin, was said to be the work of Piri Reis, a cartographer and admiral in the Turkish army. The amazing accuracy of the Piri Reis map has scholars scratching their heads.
The US geographic survey confirms that the coastline under the ice is accurate so it appears the map was compiled in a time of even greater global warming than now.

That is good news then - at least infrastructure will cope.

The heaviest Tesla comes in with a 2445kg kerb weight, that is based on the US spec model, x Plaid though.

Model X | Tesla United Kingdom

If an EV is not that much heavier, why does an electric LGV have a gross weight of 4250kg, 20% more than a diesel equivalent which you don't need to take a 5hr training coarse unlike you have to do to drive an EV LGV.

I try to base my figures on like for like, which is not easy when certain cars are discontinued or they don't manufacture an EV equivalent model.

The 2022 Vauxhall Corsa ICE which I leased recently has a kerb weight of 980kg, they have a EV version which has a kerb weight of 1530kg, that is 50% increase in kerb weight. The top ten selling cars in Europe are small hatchbacks, Golf, Clio, C3, 500, 208 etc etc, yet how many offer an EV equivalent in the same model?

In 2009 the government introduced the car scrappage scheme. Was it to help the climate or give the car industry a boost due to the recession?

Oh no, we cant have ancient tree stumps appearing from under the ice.
It could put the mockers on the whole climate change thing.

The best of it is, whoever wrote the article apparently couldn't see what was staring them in the face.

When I was invited to the online Defra meeting regarding the phasing out of peat, they openly admitted that during the processing of waste products, including the importing of coir does increase our carbon footprint (CO2) than using peat. But listening to what they had to say over the anger of the growers, we do need to reduce what we waste. If we didn't compost waste, it would end up in anaerobic landfill, which releases more harmful gases, methane.

Even some of the members on here have even said they get waste food collected separately, which suggests they must have an anaerobic digester within there area. Capturing these more potent gases and using them for renewable heating/energy can only be good thing, its will the left over waste be acceptable for the horticultural sector as a growing media. We are definitely being pushed in that direction by banning peat.

                      Hi,

70 years ago in the good old polluting days coal was king; we had short severe winters and glorious long summers; yes we had fog and smog but at least we knew what season we were in.

In those days we didn't have UNI graduates dreaming up ways to make our lives miserable. Times have changed we now have people in UNI for years studying useful subjects like history and sports science; I was fully working aged 15 studying mechanical engineering; now anything including physical labour is regarded as bottom class and looked down on; much better turning out highly regarded pen pushers or better still to concentrate on sport paying £m's to one person for kicking a ball around.

A neighbour just across the street was exercising with dumb bells as I passed his open garage setting off at 7am to do the shopping in minus 7.5C. This neighbour is another pen pusher employing a window cleaner; house cleaner and gardener; he appears to have scant knowledge of DIY always getting someone in. Too much money on our street?

His choice of course but a sign of the way ahead; practical skills are lost as the older generation die; the point of this is now we have cars that virtually do everything for us even down to tyre pressure warning.

Here we are on a forum discussing the rights and wrongs of EV's these EV's a lot more expensive than just what would be regarded as transport whilst there are many strikes and so many relying on food banks; town centers and roads being closed to vehicles only cycles allowed; if this is due to climate change then why can't EV's go into towns when as here in Huddersfield polluting diesel buses can not only freely go into town but on roads closed to normal traffic.

We're now in a sad situation when the lunatics are in charge of the asylum.

                      Kind regards, Colin.

Below is a link which shows that all cars have increased in price not just an EV. An EV Renault Zoe in 2012 was £13,650 and now in 2022 it is £30,495

The cars which have seen the biggest price inflation - Moneybarn

I have been contract leasing for over 20 years, 18 month to 3 year contacts on a 8k annual mileage was the norm. In 2017 we took out two cars out on 3 year lease contracts and I still have the paper work in the office.

The VW UP which was for my son, but had to be in my name as he could not get credit due to his age. The car was taken out on a 3 + 35 payment plan. three payments of £121.95 up front followed by 35 payments of £121.95, no admin fee, so a total lease cost of £4634.10. The car for my Mrs was a Picanto, Three payments of 124.95 and then 35 payments of £124.95 + £99 admin fee, total cost £4847.10

Now try getting a car on 3 + 35 payment plan 8k mileage and your looking at a total lease cost of 8K plus, the only car you could get for sub 8k is the Corsa which would cost £7768.
ICE vehicles are also very expensive nowadays, which helps to narrow the gap to an EV.

All these electric gismos they add are making owning a car unaffordable, which is probably there goal, have and have nots. Bus pass costs, please.
