Was chatting with a keen begonia grower yesterday who uses our JI compost. He was telling me that the local station in Pembrokeshire he uses is 132.9 for unleaded and 156.9 for diesel since the 21st December.

Not looked lately but I was told yesterday that Diesel is £1.61 at Morrisons.
        Petrol will obviously be cheaper.

Apparently it varies wildly in just a small area and is up to £1.90 in some places.

Usually competition has kept local prices within a few pence, for some reason that's not happening this time.

We are down to about 1,50 Euros for petrol.

When I started driving it was 4/4d a gallon, and I still struggled to afford it.

I remember people saying , it will be a pound a gallon by Christmas, cant remember what year that was but I dont think it reached those dizzy heights.

Mind you I can remember being told to ask for a pound an hour if I did any work for people, it always sounded too much to me.

I can't remember the exact price when I first started driving but I got 3 gallons for a £1 with a few pennies change. Must have been less than 6/8d. In those days you told the attendant how much to put in and went inside to pay at the till at the same time.

Do you remember they had that rubber pipe stretched out across the forecourt and it rang a bell inside when you drove over it at some places.
It wasn't long after I started driving before most places went self service around here I don't think.
But usually put it by the £ rather than the gallon.

Same in Thailand and neighbouring countries. You pull up to the pump, then an employee will come from the kiosk and fuel your vehicle after you have paid first. Then if you want a coffee or something to eat you have to park in a designated area, you can not pay for fuel in the retail outlet shops. In more rural areas they fuel you up using hand pumps, there is a clear container with clear markings in litres.

I was self-service long before self-service pumps were installed. I was a regular and the ladies in the office used to let me fill up then just go in and tell them what I had taken. Saved them from getting off their seat and missing their TV programme.

I remember getting 3 gallons for £1, around 1971. Always on a Thursday after getting paid, the fullest the petrol tank ever got! I can also recall petrol at 5/7 shillings pre decimal. But you also got a tiger's tail, a free glass with 4 gallons and stick-on bullet holes! Very classy

I remember the stick on bullet holes, now you mention it @HarryS .

I'd forgotten about them, still got some of those world cup footballers coins some where.
