@HarryS I didn't try throwing them :noidea: but the corks were all wired into the top of the shelves. That also meant that you didn't take the bottles away to use the petrol later. There was no money back on the bottles but they made sure they went back on the shelf. :)

I have been served petrol from a garage in Killin, many years ago, where you pulled up to the kerb and the man brought the hose across the pavement to fill you up. No forecourt.
Like this one here, only a garage, not a shop.

Shops around here used to have pumps like that inside the store for dispensing paraffin.
Saw paraffin on sale for £19.99 for 4 ltrs the other day.:yikes:

Just in case anyone thinks I pulled that photo off the internet they would be wrong. When we were driving around most of the village shops sold petrol that way. They mainly sold it for motorcycles, both 2 stroke and 4 stroke with a different rack for each.

You tend to see it in rural villages and on the islands where motorcycles are the main form of transport. Many motorcycle rentals in Thailand sold fuel by the bottle.

That looks a lot neater than those I used on Bali. :)

No matter how neat petrol in bottles look, it seems only one step away from a major disaster.

I did ask the elder of the village if there had ever been any problem on the island with it and he said not as far as he knew. Our English friends, who also had a home in the village for the last 30 years, said they hadn't heard of any problem either. :noidea: :)

Yesterday saw the end here of the government subsidy on fuel. Instead of a blanket reduction, they'll be offering a one-off €100 cheque but only to workers on a low income who can prove that they need their vehicule to get to work.

I have not heard of any disasters in Off Licences with bottles of Whisky or Vodka.
