You'll start to see some significant changes around the #M25 junction 10/A3 Wisley interchange this month.

A lot has happened already... we've moved into our site compound at Nutberry Fruit Farm and will soon announce the winners of our design competition for the new Cockrow Heathland bridge, which is part of our project.

Four Surrey schools took on the challenge to submit designs showing the types of animals, flora and fauna that might call the heathland their home.

Next week, we're installing narrow lanes and changing the speed limit to 50mph on the A3 on both sides of the junction, and the M25 as it passes through junction 10.

‍♂️ This means we can keep the same number of lanes open and create a safe working space for our team.

Here's a reminder about the first round of overnight closures we've got coming up from Monday 9 January 2023:

⬆️ Northbound - the A3 will be closed between the B2215 and A245 Painshill with no northbound entry to the A3 from Ockham, Wisley Lane or M25 junctions between
    -10.30pm and 5.30am on Monday 9, Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11, Thursday 12, Monday 16, Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 January
    - 11.00pm and 6.00am on Friday 13 January

⬇️ Southbound - the A3 will then be closed between the A244 Esher Common and A247 Burntcommon with no southbound entry to the A3 from Esher Common, Painshill, M25 or Old Lane junctions between
    - 11.00pm and 6.00am on Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Friday 27 January
    - 10.30pm and 5.30am on Monday 23, Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 January

We'll also need to close some lanes on the M25 underneath the junction at the same time as these closures, so please take extra care if you're travelling on the motorway.

Thanks FC, not been there for years, but probably best avoided.
They seem to spend so much time messing up the roads and achieving nothing in the end.

Rock and a hard place for them on this particular junction in fairness - it has been a bit of a nightmare forever, so we can only hope that this finally sorts it. The sad part is all the trees that have been culled in the process.

I've found with all these road widening's and junction alterations the first casualties are hundreds of trees, they seem to demolish far more than they have to and think planting 400 000 saplings, two foot apart in plastic tubes sometimes afterwards, makes up for the devastation.
        Idiots.

I doubt the "improvements" will make one jot of difference.

It's just down the road from us and will be a nightmare for years. It should make things flow better once completed, for commuters it only means they get to the next bottleneck faster, where the queues will be longer. For visitors to RHS Wisley it looks much more tortuous when finished. Its a lot of money down the drain and trees lost for little benefit.

It's a massive programme of works and the surrounding villages will really suffer throughout the build.
The design was altered slightly so not as many trees are being felled at Wisley so small mercies :noidea:
It is a ruddy awful junction so needed to be done

A good thing then that we’ve already visited 3 times over the years. It’ll be RHS Rosemoor this year :)

Sorry for the thread drift  For anyone planning a garden visit, I'd recommend East Ruston Old Vicarage in Norfolk. It's knocked spots off Wisley for years! At least, it did....I wonder whether the RHS 'adopting' it will have had a detrimental effect? The only downside to it is that there is so much to see and it is only open in the afternoons, so best if you're staying in the area and can go back 2 or 3 times :) Plan your visit | Opening Times | Admission Prices — East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden

Ah I remember now, this road scheme was on the cards some years ago and they wanted to take a big chunk of Wisely land in order to do it.
I think in the end they moved most of the carnage to the other side of the road.

                  RHS Wisley under threat

Yes it's been on the cards for years. The celebrity tree huggers were up in arms and were promised an alternative that would preserve the trees. They started 3 months ago by chopping down a huge swath of ancient woodland that was never on the plans, so straight away they have gone back on their word. It looks awful. All sorts of lame excuses are being touted. The secretary of state has allowed them carte blanche as it's cheaper.

It was all predictable really. Oh and it's now costing 25% more and going to take 3 years.

RHS Wisley reckon they are going to lose over £10 million due to less visitors in the long run. Provided you can afford the extra petrol to drive there it should be quieter.

Admittedly its been a few years since I last went to Wisley but I never found that junction a problem, as I remember coming from my direction I used to come of the M25 down a slip road to the A3 go a short distance then exit, go round a roundabout and back up onto the A3 in the opposite direction then exit M3 for Wisley, coming home was easier.

I see its mostly night closures, living near the M20 and the M2 I'm used to those both motorways are close regularly at night, usually for something they would never have closed it for in the past.

I dont use the A21 much but they widened it to a duel carriageway a few years back now, for some reason they cut down trees for miles around and far in excess that was needed for the widening it was total devastation , I'm all for road improvements but there should be more restriction on loss of habitat that is not necessary other than just somewhere to put a few site cabins and park vehicles while they are working.
