I dont care if it works as it should or not, the one I've got is still working, so until the government make it compulsory they can poke their "smart meter" where the sun don't shine.

I'm with British Gas...............Owned by a French company, laugh! A couple of years back my gas and electric meters were tinkered with by BG, making them into smart meters. Now my usage is electronically transmitted to the company. I can login any time to check my account. I never did get one of those thingies you look at and say. Hell's bells, I've used four pence more leccy today than yesterday, must pee in the dark. I was told that the smart meter was to save the company money, no meter reader was required. Yet technology does some poor beggar out of a job, just like, self service checkout in supermarkets.

Perhaps I shouldn't moan about this. My daughter Amanda contacted Guys hospital,London. I've appointed her my PA. Lovely lass at 53yrs old. Don't tell her. She hates anyone knowing her age. Anyway, she contacted Guys. My dad is supposed to see a consultant urologist. What's happened about his appointment. Usual long and short of it. Oh, his records have gone missing. We can give him an emergency appt; with Prof; Karn, 11.45 11/10/19.

A few days later, I get a letter/appointment from my local QE Hosp. Woolwich. An appointment for November.
Please believe me. Back in 2014 I notice blood in my urine. Couple of days later, my GP, click click whire on the computer and an appointment was made within the week. A cystoscopy was done and. Oh yes, Mr Allen. Its' bladder cancer. No worries, it's treatable. Other tests were done and the surgery. That all went well. My Chief consultant is an Aussie and we spent time talking about sea foods. I admire him, as he actually took the QE !! hosp to court, for failing to give top class care to his patients.

Sadly the cancer came back and I have had surgery what four/five times now. Now this appointment is with the TOP urologist. Question is. Why is the cancer coming back? For me. I'd rather leave things as they are. Should I take a pee and sod it, I'm bleeding. Then OK cameras, action etc.

Having read medicine for three years, perhaps. A little knowledge can be danderouse, so what? Reading members posts recently. Eating disorders etc. Psycosematic come to mind. Some call it, Mind over matter.
In my case. Without realising it. That word. Cancer. Believe me I am not afraid of dying. Strange though. Suddenly all my love, devotion etc. I lost all interest in my garden, my scientific studies. My garden suffered. Thankfully now, I am slowly getting back my interest. An hour at a time, but things are looking up. So, who knows. This old so & so may see a few more years yet. Many thanks friends for listening, but honestly Mike is so down.

Listening to the radio this morning. Smart Meters can be turned into pre-payment meters with the click of a few buttons on a keyboard at the electricity suppliers HQ. No visits, no entry to the property - just BOOM - you've got a pre-payment meter.

I don't like this much control - especially with regards to a basic necessity such as energy.

Would you rather they came into your house and did it, or if you were not in, broke in (they have the legal right) to physically swap your meter?

We had a neighbour who had their meter disconnected, they weren't at home so the utility company got a locksmith to let them in. They hadn't been paying their bill so that results in everyone else having to pay more.

If you have an external meter cupboard they can swap it to prepayment any time they want.

I don't see what the fuss is about.

When I changed to my current (no pun intended) supplier I got them to put in writing that they would not install a Smart Meter. :blue thumb:

There are only two things a prepaid meter might accomplish.

One is training those who don't have a lot of money to stop leaving the lights on all night and other wasteful behaviour after you've put the money in the meter.
And the other is pretty much the same thing but at the earning side. Don't use more power than you'll have money to buy.

The only "good" thing about a prepaid meter is, from the sounds of it, that it is a flat rate. No punishing for cooking at meal times.. :rolleyespink:

I have a neighbour who complains about the cost of electricity (we all have smart meters and time of use rates to go with) but this person uses their clothes dryer for hours and hours during peak rate periods! They don't seem to be broke so I am totally puzzled by the whining too. :noidea:

Over here people on prepay end up paying a higher rate for their power!

That is totally wrong! The utility is getting their money upfront so there is not excuse for a higher rate!!

Edit: Oops, maybe they are trying to recoup their previous loss from this user?

I think they were doing it and not telling the customer, which was the main point.
People were thinking they had been cut off on some occasions, other just didn't have any money, I thought you had to have a card that you topped up.

If that happened to me there would be a big claim for all the expensive items that I found were also missing.;)

So a police officer needs a warrant, unless invited, but a energy worker can just walk in, doesn't sound right to me, unless they suspect a gas leak or some such problem.
