I have Tens attachments to my circulation maxx but have never used them. J has a Tens set which he used a few times for his back but that didn't last long as he is not good at sticking to things and said it was iffy as to whether it helped. :rolleyespink:

Apparently the NHS spends about 500 million a year on Statins.

I've just got more and more desperate over the last 5yrs or so.
Been to private physio, spent a few hundred at a podiatrist nothing seems to work, I still think it's a back issue but the specialist said it wasn't and just said it is plantar fasciitis.
Maybe it is but no one will tell me what is causing it in both feet .
All they kept saying was let's get the knees sorted out first.

If doctors get kickbacks from drug companies in the UK they would end up struck off and in jail. You must be reading the wrong Facebook pages.
I take Atorvastatin. I had been on them a number of years back and thought they were causing muscle pains. Tried various statins then stopped altogether. Pains continued but it turned out just to be my arthritis.
The doctor phoned me a few months ago and suggested I should be taking statins so I agreed and she started me on a low dose. After a couple of months, I felt no ill effects so she upped the dosage to a regular amount and I still feel fine.
I used to take a small soluble Asprin every day but my previous doctor stopped them as they can cause gastric bleeding over time.

My doctor has wanted me to take statins for the last 15 years cholestrol of 5.5 at the moment but I am happy with my diet and lots of exercise at the moment:smile:

This is for information only I am just reading this book it is interesting to say the least but the jury is still out:smile:

                  Summary
Statins are the so-called wonder drugs prescribed to lower blood cholesterol levels and claim to offer unparalleled protection against heart disease. This book exposes the truth behind the hype, revealing high cholesterol levels don't cause heart disease, and, a high-fat diet - saturated or otherwise - does not affect blood cholesterol levels.

I have heard that you size or weight has no effect on your your cholesterol level.
Some very skinny people have high, while some fat people have low cholesterol, its not something I would want to meddle with, at this moment in time, unless mine is clearly high.

This is a subject that interests me greatly.

MASSIVE DISCLAIMER, IM NOT A MEDICAL EXPERT.

I read a lot on the subject of nutrition and health, but I don't read the deeply academic articles because I don't understand them. My level is kind of the slightly dumbed down version, but significantly above the mainstream media level if that makes sense.

From what I can gather, cholesterol doesn't really cause issues on its own, but the correlation between heart disease and high cholesterol exists, but it's more that high cholesterol is often a marker for other issues, such as nutrition levels, diet, exercise, hormonal activity etc.

One point that is now widely accepted science is that your food doesn't directly raise or lower your cholesterol. Almost all of the cholesterol in your blood is made by your body, no matter what you eat. Where nutrition does play a key role is in how your body deals with the cholesterol it makes. They used to say that fiber lowers your cholesterol by physically brushing excess fat from your bowels. They now know that's not true at all, but fiber feeds gut bacteria which produce byproducts and your body uses the same molecules that make up cholesterol to process everything in the gut properly. So same outcome, different reason.

It also seems that while cholesterol does not damage arteries in itself, if there is already damage for other reasons, then cholesterol will build up at the site as part of the body's normal response to such damage. So if you have inflammation in the arteries for other reasons, then cholesterol can build up as part of the scarring process.

The takeaway for a totally not medically trained average person that I am, is that if nutrition is taken seriously, and other health concerns are properly dealt with, then cholesterol becomes a non issue.

Cholesterol level means very little. There is "good" and "bad" cholesterol and it is the level of the "bad" that determines your risk.
I have done a lot of research into diet and the causes of obesity and associated ill health and there is a lot of rubbish put out by the medical profession, including the NHS, with regard to what we should and should not eat. Most of it comes from flawed data, produced by a couple of "funded" studies in the US back in the '50s, and despite refuted findings is still taken as gospel.
When the US decided that carbohydrates and fats were bad for us and dietary plans changed, obesity shot up, first in the US and then almost worldwide. Nations that didn't see the jump are those that stuck to carbohydrates and fats!

I remember back in the 1980s and 90s.

Butter is evil, we should all switch to hydrogenated vegetable fats - margarine. Now there is compelling evidence that that's really destructive.

Don't eat eggs, they'll raise your cholesterol. Now we know that they're one of the most nutritionally rich foods there are, and are loaded with a micronutrient called choline, which helps your liver correctly process fat.

I eat eggs, butter, cheese etc and have perfectly clear arteries ... the Doc doing my Cartotoid Ultrasound last month told T'other Half I have the arteries of a young woman ... not bad for someone of 74! I am not a big meat eater. I don't eat steaks, pork, etc, but love anything with mince which we will have as Bolognese tonight, but should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.

I've always tended to eat what I like, I do eat mostly fish but I do like a fry up once or twice a week, always eat butter, cant stand those so called spreads.
Not a big eater of eggs, still like a bit of sugar and salt with food and drinks.

And I can eat cheddar cheese all day, with a packet of crisps and tomato.

I need more exercise though, that's what I'm missing out on.
