I was at Le Mans in 1999 when the Mercedes CLR cars wanted to go air- borne. Happened twice to Mark Webber and once to someone else, they withdrew the other aeroplane, I mean Merc from the race.

I have flew on the A380 with Emirates six times, I was actually nervous the first time, but all was well.

The A380 is a good plane and have flown on it with Singapore airlines a few times. :blue thumb:

I think it was "Never" as in "Never again will I go up in one of them.".

Yes, the A350 superseded it but the A380's that were mothballed during Covid are now being brought back into service. The 80 has a larger capacity and is more luxurious but the 50 is more fuel efficient and has a longer range. So the 80 is better for high capacity routes.

I'm kind of glad I'm at an age where I probably wont have to bother.

So their net zero commitment was yet another lie?

With EVs already more expensive than their petrol counterparts, adding crazy tax rates to them is just a massive disincentive. It will just mean more ageing petrol cars on the road.

It makes me wonder if, oh I don't know, perhaps the oil companies might be making cash donations to charities of senior ministers choices or something in return for favours.

I'm sure those of us still driving ICE vehicles will see taxes rise and we will be between a rock and a hard place.
I was forced to sell my old faithful because they taxed me off the road, I'm assuming that will happen again and I'll end up driving a clapped out EV that has seen better days, thats if they dont take my licence away before then.;)

I reckon all the government target dates for EVs will slide by at least a decade. Let's face it, they prove time and again they're incapable of sticking to a timeline

Lets hope so, as its unrealistic and some silly knee jerk reaction to international one upmanship.

It was inevitable that EV owners would end up paying VED and sooner or later they will probably pay per mile due to lost revenue from fuel duty.

Why should others who have switched to HVO fuel, which is supposed to reduce carbon emissions by as much as 90% still have to pay VED but also full fuel duty as those using fossil fuels. Bio fuels were always more expensive than fossil fuels, it's even more now since April 2022 as there is no rebate if used as fuel for transport.

I agree that EV owners should be liable for VED. I just don't think the amount quoted is fair. On my car, I pay 30 quid per year.
