    IMG-4689.jpg IMG-4686.jpg IMG-4688.jpg Evening all,

Had to remove a rotten panel today and am looking to plant something that would be nice but not too invasive in a smallish area

The area is beside my oil tank in the back garden. This is north facing and my garden is on a hill so can be quite damp most of the time esp in winter/ autumn

Was thinking of some low size beech plants that would cover the lower section of the oil tank (the supports as seen in the photo) and maybe a nice small shrub or plant bulbs for next spring!?

Not looking for anything bushy more upright in style, any ideas are most welcomeView attachment 189035View attachment 189035View attachment 189035View attachment 189038View attachment 189038View attachment 189039

Are you planning to plant directly into ground, and if yes, what's under the gravel?

A large container or raised bed with trellis might work well in that position, many evergreen climbers do just fine in shady dampness. Ivy is obvious but some evergreen Loniceras (Henryi is my favourite) are even more pleasing.

Underplanting the climbers with evergreen ferns and some bulbs, or semi- evergreen Geraniums would be an easy care option.

Shrubs that grow narrowly are hard to find so perhaps a trellis with climbers is something to consider. Many conifers have suitable shape and form and if you are planting directly into the ground they might work well.

Evening Will. Have you considered expanding trellis with artificial foliage? The fake foliage you can get now is almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Im thinking a wooden trellis panel where the fence used to be and then fix the artificial panel to the front using cable ties. Instant cover, looks good without waiting, can be removed for access to the storage tanks, dont have to worry about the soil conditions, doesnt take up much space, you can put some potted plants in front if you fancy some colour.

Ive used these panels in problem areas in my own garden. Im very pleased with them.

Yeah have thought of artificial foliage before and you have me thinking of it even more so now! I could attach wooden batons to the brick supports of the oil tank and use trellis/ artificial foliage along it and perhaps a wooden planter box in front of it

There is soil under the gravel was originally going to plant in the ground however clanless has suggested artificial plants so that may be an option too!

Narrow tall plants/ shrubs are hard to come by I agree.

Well it looks a lot better than it did. I'd grow a climbing plant up that post like a rose / clematis or one of the many others , it will draw the eye to the rose / other than the artificial foliage it will not be quite as noticeable
