Thanks @JWK. I'm impressed not only by the storage but how late you were able to keep picking!

 

I recommend Rosella Cherry. Then again, I'm a fan of Bloody Butcher and certainly don't find it bland, so it all depends on your taste buds. I find Jaune Flamme quite nice but not up to the hype.

Sungold is the only tomato my mother likes. It's deservedly popular. Shame it's an F1.

 

Black Cherry is another tasty variety.

 

Thanks @eatenbyweasels and @Alisa - it could be that I got bland fruit because I gave too much water and not enough feed. Or maybe legacy of Covid - my sense of taste and smell have been playing up since the summer

 

COVID shot out my taste buds last year, too ( see the 2022 thread for my grumbles about that ) and as a result, large quantities of my tomatoes ended up cooked and portioned in the freezer. Yesterday I had a batch of Lufichoise on toast for breakfast. Pow! Bright, sweet/tart goodness!

 

Sixteen years in storage, then just five days to germinate!

I call it "Sci-Fi". I saved some seeds from a tomato I ate on holiday in 2006 and have been growing them off and on ever since.

 

That's an odd looking one - appropriate name!

How long do other members wait before giving up on their sown tomato seeds?

 

I think that's maybe how I got some varieties mixed up last year, by re-using pots of compost that I thought were non-starters. Mine are all sown in bags this year, so it's not as if they are taking up space. It's more that I need to decide whether to re-sow.

Thanks for the info. I also grew Ukrainian purple in 2021 - and it was actually much better than last year. Certainly more productive and a better taste.
Let's see how the other two do - chose the orange banana principally for cooking, hopefully it won't be too bad - or at least better than the supermarket stuff!

I'll look into those other ones. Grushovka was on my list for this year - but opted for Moskvich instead. Luckily still plenty of time to get some seeds in.
