True. The two terracotta pedestal pots with cutouts are actually called lanternas designed for candles and have tops which | is using as hanging deco from trees ...

 

I bought an LED batten for my workshop/potting shed and installed it today in place of a double tube 6ft fluorescent. The batten is 30 watt and it is twice as bright as the 2 x 125 watt I have replaced. The batten is 3 ft long and cost me £13.99.

No. It is a pure electronic unit. Slim and light as a feather.

 

I tested that clay pot candle business about 8 years ago. It's nonsense. Or at best not much better than just using a candle for heat.

Well to be honest I cant see how you can get more heat out of a single flame just by putting flower pot over it, but its a nice idea.

 

Because it heats the whole pot, diffusing the heat? It would work just as well with a metal container...

 

I can see that it would spread the heat better, I agree, rather than it going straight up.

 

Years ago we used to use a paraffin burner from a roadwork lantern with a clay pot over it to heat our cold frame.

 

I have time. I like making soup and this is such good value....
Bought a 70p bag of very good carrots from the Co op = 1 kg....
Had 6 for lunch on Sunday,
6 left for another day's dinner
And todays soup :
Cook 6 chopped carrots and simmer til soft.
Add 1 Lidl chicken stock cube .
A half cup of creamed coconut.
Chopped coriander....


Soup for the 2 of us....cost 50p !

 

Looks delicious Jenny, we also make all of our own soups too.

We batch cook in our pressure cooker and then freeze in two portion quantities. You can make so many tasty soups from rummaging in the veg drawer with the addition of beans/ pulses , vermicelli noodles and tiny pasta shapes......why buy tinned.!!

 

Yes, after the candle/pot deal didn't work, I used a couple of kerosene (parrafin) lanterns and they heated the greenhouse 4f above the ambient. Only good either early fall or late spring. I still have those lanterns and a couple of gallons of kerosene. I did NOT like the black suet that it even applied to the interior - it took Dawn soap to get it off. Never again.
