Ah, nice to see a new thread! But I've not got any photos of my plants yet on this new computer! But I hope to remediate that - if I can figure out how to get them off my phone & on the the new PC first!

Today I noticed the first fully opened crocus flower mixed in with my cyclamen. When I got round to photographing it later in the afternoon the petals had closed up, but as I was looking around I noticed that there were several crocuses with closed up petals, and lots that are still just leaves yet to flower.

The fully opened one was a yellow one that I planted in a previous year, over two years ago. I think it was originally a bulb from Poundland, I had planted a lot of those. Last autumn I planted 40 Prince Claus crocuses (white with splashes of purple) and I recently bought a small pot of Ruby Giant crocus and a small pot of Romance crocus from Morrisons for a pound each.

The sheer joy when I see the first crocus of spring opening. A few days ago it felt like my crocuses would never flower. I have all kinds of bulbs planted in previous years haphazardly everywhere, which seems to be the way I am which sometimes is useful as the same plants thrive in some places and not others, and I don't know where they will best thrive until I try them in different places.

I am just starting out with cyclamen coum, and some more exotic cyclamens, and when I had a look today I noticed that some I planted in December that I thought had rotted look like they have new flower buds on them and at worst the corms should survive and flower next year, and others look ok now, including three Cyclamen coum that I bought a week ago from Kew Gardens, probably down to the exact spot where I planted them and keeping their leaves and flower buds off the ground so they don't rot.

@NigelJ wonderful purple Crocus tommasinianus and fancy snowdrops. I have a few snowdrops flowering, they are just ones originally from Poundland, few and haphazard but they have improved over the three years since I first planted them and they are extremely welcome at this time of year when if feels like very little flowers. I can understand why people decide to get a few special snowdrops as they are the very first flowers in January or even December other than cyclamen. In some parts of my garden snowdrops flower a bit later, probably due to lack of light, so they aren't ideal everywhere.

 

I must post a couple of pictures of my Clivias - they are looking fantastic now!

 

Got a bit of sunshine here this morning and posted a video of some of the new blooms in the garden. Still signs of frost damage about but there seems to be a bit more warmth in the air.

Edit: Also saw the first bumble bee of the new year in the garden this afternoon so definite signs things are starting to wake up from their winter rest.

Hi there. Just want to say I have been unable to watch videos for some time as my service has been either down or when it is up it is painfully slow ... but I am sure everything looks wonderful as it has in the past when I was able to view.

 

Sounds wonderful Michael. I got someone to help me a few years ago as gardening is not my T'other Half's thing or desire. I only get Ben in 3/4 times a year to do the difficult jobs for me, shrub trimming, weeding, etc, and it is well worth the 10 Euros an hour, plus a couple of beers and tip.
