    Hi all

Our front door creaks and groans like crazy. Of course I could just lube the hinges, put I noticed the other day that the top hinge had a pin or bolt thing sliding up over. It's whatever you call the bit of the hinge that runs down the middle of the two halves. The axle for want of a better word.

I pushed it back in, but I also noticed that the two halves of the hinge seem to be slightly off centre from each other, as though the pin thing is significantly worn and not as fat as it used to be.

My question for you good people is, do we know what the actual piece is called? Googling 'door hinge pin thing' yields no results. I bet the piece I want has some highly unintuitive name.

Wouldn't it be better to buy complete new hinges.

@CanadianLori that was my instinctive thought, but it yielded no results, at least nothing like I'm looking for.

Possibly. It depends how hard they are to change?

Looks easy enough to replace as long as you can find the right kind.
Anything like it in @NigelJ s link.

Heavens, a long nail with the right diameter would work!
